Don't Adjust Your Screen: A NEW Hardee's is Opening in Metro Atlanta

Hardee's opening brand new restaurant

One of the first new Hardee's in metro Atlanta in many years is expected to open next month in Lilburn.  The new freestanding restaurant is being built at the corner of Inland Way and U.S. 29 (Lawrenceville Highway) in place of a former gas station that had most recently operated as a "We Buy Gold" business.

The restaurant is situated in an outparcel of the Goodwill anchored Lilburn Square shopping center at 5335  Lawrencville Highway.     The new, roughly 3,000 square foot building sits on just under one acre and will provide about 31 parking spaces for its customers, along with a drive-thru.

Pending inspections and barring any unforeseen delays, sources tell me the new Lilburn Hardee's is expected to open October 25th.     Hardee's, which got its start in Rocky Mount, North Carolina in 1960 but is today based in St. Louis, once had dozens of locations in metro Atlanta, many inside the perimeter.  Today there is a single Hardee's inside the perimeter, barely, on Bouldercrest Drive in southeast Atlanta.

The new Lilburn restaurant, like many in the chain's franchise network, will be operated by Summit Restaurant Holdings LLC, a division of Boulder, Colorado-based Lund Brown Enterprises.

In Georgia, Summit's Hardee's restaurants include locations in Athens, Alpharetta, Sandy Springs, Canton, Carrollton, Cumming and Fayetteville.  According to a representative I reached at Hardee's customer relations, the chain has a total of 118 restaurants in Georgia, most of which are in smaller, rural communities.

Hardee's and its sibling west coast restaurant Carl's Jr. are both owned by CKE Restaurants.  CKE is owned, like so many other restaurants, by Atlanta-based Roark Capital Group.

Are you excited for a new Hardee's to be opening?  What is your favorite Hardee's menu item?  Where would you like to see Hardee's open next?

Please share your thoughts below.

I remember eating at Hardees several years ago mostly for breakfast. If I remember right they had/have burgers and roast beef sandwiches, but again the breakfast was the main draw. I could be mistaken, but I believe there is another Hardees on Hwy 78 next to the drive-thru Waffle house not sure if that is Lilburn or Stone Mountain.

@Ham,

Yes, you are correct, there is still a Hardee's on 78 in an area that I think many would consider Stone Mountain, although it may not actually lie within the city limits.

Thanks as always for your comments and readership.

There is a new Hardees (less than a yr old) in Acworth on Cobb Pkwy. I used to eat at Hardees all the time when I was younger. The breakfast was the best but the fried chicken was also really good. I haven't eaten at a Hardees now in at least 10 years.

Hardees is making a strong comeback nationally. I would expect more to open locally in the relatively near future. There's a brand new one just off 85 in Oakwood/Gainesville. I used to go to the Hardees at Toco Hills which is now operated as Reggie's Hair Styling.
Who remembers this?

A new Hardee's opened last year in Dallas, GA in the Ingles parking lot. They built it on the former Arby's property.

I am glad to see Hardee's open a new location in Lilburn. The enter Metro Atlanta area has been lacking this restaurant chain.

Yes to the breakfast, always good, hot and cooked to order. Other offerings are super and they do rotate and update their menu.

The most recent Hardee's in the Atlanta market that I am aware of is near Jasper off of 575.

Just an FYI, Hardee's has offices in St. Louis and Carl's JR has offices in California. The company has announced that they will relocate their two corporate offices to Nashville, Tennessee early next year. T

Am super excited about the new Hardee's location in Lilburn,GA. We use travel to the one in Stone Mountain which was a 45 min to a hour trip there and back but now am only 5 minutes from the new locations. Am so waiting for the grand opening, we drive by there every week to see if the place is open. My favorite is the Biscuit & Gravy w/ hash browns. I love the burgers too. 14 years ago, I use to be a shift leader for a Hardee's in Jacksonvillle, Alabama and fell in love with the since. It would be nice if the bring back the fried chicken, it was the best in the market.

I always felt Hardees had much more to offer in the way of better food, and couldn't believe why McDonalds had so many people hooked on their garbage.now it Hardees turn to grow. Yippee!!
