Kinnucan's Specialty Outfitters closed its Atlantic Station store Thursday night after about three and half years in business. The Auburn, Alabama-based retailer entered the Atlanta market with their store at Atlantic Station in May 2014. The store opened in place of City Sports, a Boston based sporting goods retailer that originally occupied the space.
The new H&M at Atlantic Station |
A second Kinnucan's soon followed in late 2014 at Avalon in Alpharetta. At the time, both Atlantic Station and Avalon were owned and managed by North American Properties. The Avalon store will remain open as will other Georgia stores in Peachtree Corners, Columbus, Newnan and Athens. Kinnucan's closure at Atlantic Station was reportedly a mutual decision between the retailer and real estate firm Hines, which currently owns Atlantic Station. Sources say the retailer never really "clicked" with the intown market and is far more pleased the performance of their OTP locations.
The closure of Kinnucan's will allow for Hines to relocate a portion of H&M to the space as H&M will soon undergo an extensive expansion and remodel. H&M, which first opened at Atlantic Station in 2008, will swell from about 26,000 square feet to 40,000 square feet, making it what the retailer will reportedly consider its southeast flagship.
A second portion of H&M will relocate to the former Z Gallerie space during the renovation. According to a source at Atlantic Station, H&M will likely relocate to their respective temporary spaces in about eight weeks.
The H&M expansion will allow the Swedish clothing retailer to offer an extended variety of its men's, home and collaboration collections. An Atlantic Station source told ToNeTo Atlanta that the new H&M is expected to open this coming November.
The same Atlantic Station source indicated that there are leases pending on Kinnucan's and former Z Gallerie spaces for permanent replacements as well as for the "jewel boxes" planned as replacements for the former Strip restaurant. Announcements on these and other Atlantic Station developments are expected in the next 60 to 90 days, according to the source.
Are you surprised that Kinnucan's closed at Atlantic Station? What would you like to see open in the vacant retail spaces at Atlantic Station? If you live in metro Atlanta, where do you most of your brick & mortar shopping?

H&M is filled with shoddy clothing much like IKEA is filled with disposable home furnishings. Americans should start their "Swedish death cleaning" by not buying from these junk stores taking over the country and littering our landfills with refuse. Hypocritical of this generation to demand the government to fight climate change, then these "consumers" turn around and pollute the planet by buying this future garbage.
The US is over retailed with disposable fast fashion. Wake up!
Ahh yes, "this generation," the one that has to buy cheap clothing and furniture because your generation plundered our society's wealth, causing this generation to be the first in American history to have less of a chance for success than the one before it. Don't worry, we're patient enough to let you drone on with your fake outrage at our supposed hypocrisy.
I could so guess your age range. LOL
Poster 2:31 is definitely a Millennial that shops thrift and consignment.
Poster 10:54 is over "educated" and in high debt, miserable in a life of his/her/its own choices. Also, he/she/it is very mad at his/her/its parents and grandparents for having to spend "his/her/its" inheritance on their own happy lives and healthcare. Damn those hippies that grew up and made something of their lives and spent money you selfishly thought would be yours.
LOL, doubt it 5:37!
H&M is most definitely trash
Wow! What an interesting and insightful conversation that puts in the lime light the very real conflict of generations...!
other than buying the odd t-shirt for the kids at H&M I have given up on their brand due to quality issues. Most stuff has simply failed or had to be returned.
you have to be selective at Ikea there is some decent stuff but most of its crap.
as for generational issues, its the same for everyone, work hard, educate yourself, stay out of jail and you will be just fine.
