To Infinity And Beyond! After 43 Years in Midtown Woody's CheeseSteaks is Branching Out to Buckhead

Midtown favorite Woody's CheeseSteaks plans to open a second location in Buckhead in about six months.  The new eatery, on Irby Avenue near its intersection with Cains Hill Place, will open in the former Sabot women's boutique at 45 Irby Avenue.  Sabot, along with neighboring businesses Beth Ann and Razzle Dazzle, closed in 2016.
Sabot has since reopened in Powers Ferry Square on Roswell Road near Chastain Park.  Razzle Dazzle and Beth Ann have remained closed, althouh Beth Ann owner Beth Ann Taratoot has done trunk shows at Sabot.

The original Woody's is located in a small freestanding shack at 981 Monroe Drive and has been business since 1975.  David Pastoria was the restaurant's original owner, with current owner Steven Renner and operations manger Matthew Porcelli having taken over in mid-2010.

The restaurant, located across the street from the Grady High School stadium, is popular for its quality cheesesteaks, and also for their late night hours: until midnight during the week, and until 4AM on Fridays and Saturdays.  The hours in Buckhead will reportedly be the same.

"Having an Atlanta institution like Woody's Cheesesteaks join the West Village is a great addition to the neighborhood." said Herbert Ames, Senior Vice President - Southeast, Development with real estate firm Edens.  Columbia, South Carolina-based Edens purchased the Sabot property and many others nearby in 2015.  Edens also owns nearby Andrews Square and Buckhead Market Place.

The original Woody's, which according to Fulton county property records occupies a 572 square foot building originally constructed in 1953, is far smaller than the planned Buckhead outpost.  The Buckhead restaurant, a whopping 1,390 square feet, will provide Woody's a larger kitchen which will in turn allow the eatery to expand its menu and offer delivery and catering.  The Buckhead building is also a little newer, built in 1954.

The new Woody's in Buckhead
Woody's new location in Buckhead's West Village will open adjacent to the popular Five Paces Bar and at a time of tremendous multi-family construction in the area.  The 353 unit Hanover Buckhead Village at the corner of Roswell Road and Irby Avenue welcomed its first residents earlier this month.  Nearby, also at the corner of Roswell Road and Irby Avenue, but on the site of the former Rio Bravo restaurant, Lennar Multifamily plans to begin construction in March on a 297 unit high-rise apartment building.  Alliance Residential is currently under construction with their own mid-rise apartment building, The Irby, a 277 unit building with street level retail, on the site of former Henri's.

Are you excited about the addition of Woody's to Buckhead?  What do you think of all the development in and around the Buckhead West Village?  What is your favorite classic Atlanta restaurant?

I've never eaten at Woody's although not on purpose. Is it good? I would think late night eatery near Five Paces and other area bars is a good move.

if someone wants a great cheesesteak, far better than Woody's is CHEESESTEAK PLACE on Cheshire Bridge Road. Its been in business well over 25 years and their cheesesteak uses ingredients straight from Philadelphia.

@ The first anonymous.

I know what you mean. I was born and raised in the ATL and STILL haven't got around to trying Woody's. How sad is that..lol! but I promise myself that I will ASAP.

Ditto.
I'm going to try the one mentioned above on Cheshire Bridge too, as well as Big Dave's at Winter's Chapel (I've tried their Italian water ice (authentic) but not their steaks yet).
