[UPDATE] Chick-fil-A Stone Mountain to Reopen November 1

The Chick-fil-A on Stone Mountain Highway (U.S. 78) in Stone Mountain will reopen Thursday November 1 after being completely demolished and rebuilt.  Owner/Operator Cliff Daniels has operated the Stone Mountain restaurant, originally built in 1996, since 2013.  ToNeTo Atlanta first reported on the planned "scrape & rebuild" last November with the restaurant officially closing July 21, 2018.   The nearly 5,000 square foot restaurant is larger than its predecessor and includes the Atlanta-based chain's updated interior as well as an expanded kitchen, indoor two-story playground and reconfigured parking lot.

The new Chick-fil-A and its parking are situated differently on the parcel than before in an effort to  provide better access and functionality.  The restaurant features dual drive-thru ordering lanes and screens to enable customers to move quickly into a single lane for payment and pickup.  Also new to the restaurant is  a designated inside pick-up counter for Chick-fil-A One mobile orders.  The restaurant features  a dining room with seating for 113 with additional outdoor patio seating for 10.

Daniels grew up in Marietta, where his father, Danny Daniels, has been the operator of the chain’s Woodlawn Square restaurant on Johnson Ferry Road since 1984.  While in high school, Daniels learned the ropes by working at his father’s restaurant. He graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in management and after several years in sales, he returned to Chick-fil-A, working at one of the chain’s mall locations before being selected to operate the Chick-fil-A in Stone Mountain in 2013.

Daniels’ father’s Chick-fil-A location in Marietta at Woodlawn Square, which was torn down at the same time as the Chick-fil-A Stone Mountain, is slated to reopen in December.

Chick-fil-A has in recent months completed a number of "scrape & rebuild" projects around the greater metro Atlanta area.  In addition to the North Druid Hills restaurant, the first freestanding Chick-fil-A in the chain, the company has also completed rebuild projects on Windy Hill Road and South Cobb Drive as well as DTO (Drive-Thru Only) locations on Roswell Road in Sandy Springs, Fairburn Road in Douglasville and Cobb Parkway near Cumberland Mall

Chick-fil-A also recently rebuilt their popular Newnan Dwarf House on Highway 34, rechristening it Truett's Chick-fil-A.  Another Chick-fil-A Dwarf House on Shorter Avenue in Rome was also recently demolished with plans for it to reopen early next year, also as a Truett's Chick-fil-A.

The decision to "scrape & rebuild" a Chick-fil-A is not based purely on age, but is instead done after considering a number of metrics including potential for logistical improvement, sales volume and traffic patterns, among other factors.

Additionally, many of the recently rebuilt Chick-fil-A restaurants have opened without the company's popular "First 100" promotion that awards a free year's worth (52) #1 combo meals to the first 100 patrons who camp out at the restaurant a full 24 hours in advance of the opening.  The North Druid Hills, Windy Hill Road and Roswell Road DTO restaurants all participated in the First 100 promotion, but subsequent openings on South Cobb Drive and elsewhere have not.

A Chick-fil-A representative indicated that the decision to participate in the promotion is a joint decision between corporate and the owner/operator, and that neither the Stone Mountain nor the Woodlawn restaurants would be participating in the promotion.

ToNeTo Atlanta is aware of at least three additional planned "scrape & rebuild" projects projects around metro Atlanta and hopes to have updates and timelines for them in the coming months.

Are you excited for the reopening of Chick-fil-A Stone Mountain?  Which Chick-fil-A would you like to see rebuilt next?  What are your thoughts on the new look of recently built Chick-fil-A restaurants?

Stone Mountain is a scary place these days...hopefully the new interior features cameras everywhere, and bullet-proof glass as a security measure. Bring on fast-food automation!
