[UPDATE] After Just Seven Months, Dallas Biscuit Company Has Closed

Dallas Biscuit Company has quietly closed.  The breakfast eatery, located at 210 Merchants Drive in Dallas, was the reincarnation of Mountain Biscuits, originally located near Kennesaw Mountain. Restaurant operator Debbie Ingram opened the original Mountain Biscuit at 1718 Old 41 Highway at the foot of Kennesaw Mountain in 2009.  In 2016, with business booming, Ingram tripled the size of her then-modest restaurant to accommodate the increase in customers.

In early 2018, ToNeTo Atlanta was first to report on her planned relocation to a former Huddle House in Dallas which she attributed to the rising cost of rent.  The restaurant opened in July and reportedly closed permanently as of February.  In researching for this post, one of the most telling facts about the lack of business at the new restaurant was the lack of Facebook comments or Yelp reviews.  Patrons had been quite vocal leaving positive comments both during the restaurant's existence in Kennesaw and around the time of the closure.  That said, the first Yelp.com comment at the new location was not until November 4, and there is little to no talk of the Dallas location or former Kennesaw patrons making the trek to Dallas on Facebook.

Given the business not only survived, but thrived, in Kennesaw, it's quite sad to see it close so soon in its new home.  That said, one major reason it likely closed was that its prices, while not terribly high or unreasonable, were perceived as "too high" by many in the Dallas community, according to local ToNeTo Atlanta sources as well as comments on social media.

One especially telling comment was from Sara B who said "prices seem high !!!!" that was subsequently "liked" by six people.

The fact of the matter is that while one might consider Dallas "not too far" from Kennesaw, the new restaurant was about 17 miles and 30 minutes away, and offered breakfast food, not something that most people will drive significant distances for.

Additionally, Dallas is simply not as affluent as Kennesaw, with median annual household income in Kennesaw estimated to be nearly $10,000 higher than in Dallas.

Basecamp Pancakes & Provisions, a sibling concept from the owners of The Marietta Local on the Marietta Square, opened in place of Mountain Biscuits, and according to locals, is doing well.

More recently, Red Eyed Mule, another popular Kennesaw area breakfast eatery, was forced to relocate after not being offered a lease renewal at their original Church Street Extension location.  Like Mountain Biscuits, Red Eyed Mule also relocated to a former Huddle House, but a recently renovated and better located one on South Marietta Parkway, not far from the Cobb County Civic Center, Dobbins Air Reserve Base, Lockheed Martin and downtown Marietta among other attractions.

Are you surprised that Dallas Biscuit Company closed?  Did you ever visit Dallas Biscuit Company?  Have you been to Basecamp or the relocated Red Eyed Mule?

I live in Dallas and I never even knew about it. Also that location would be pretty close to Martin's so not a smart choice in my book cinsidconsi Martin's has a drive thru and established business in the community

The location of Dallas Biscuit has as much, if not everything, to do with its closing. I live in Dallas and am constantly all over town, yet I rarely drive by this location on Merchants Drive. This section of roadway was bypassed years ago with a much more convenient 4 lane highway therefore there was limited exposure at this location. A more prominent spot in Dallas or Hiram and this eatery would have had a better chance of survival.

I work nights nearby and stopped there a few times. But they never seemed to be open. Was eager to try though.

I didn't know it was there. Nor it being the reincarnation of Mountain Biscuits. The ol' adage of 'location, location, location' hasn't changed. I enjoyed eating there prior to the move. Unfortunately, I hadn't in years due to a job change. I agree with others here. Dallas has too many stapled breakfast eateries in order for it to survive. Hiram would've been more advantageous.

Not surprised when you chose to relocate next to a crack Motel!

I went one time. Too little seating and felt too small. No drive thru too.

Not surprised for a place that had no waitresses and gave you plastic silverware to eat with.

Not surprising; the old location saw plenty of drive-by traffic as well as hikers from Kennesaw Mountain, and was in a much more populated and prosperous area.

Side note: the old location of Mountain Biscuit/current location of Basecamp at Kennesaw Mountain is technically in Marietta, not Kennesaw.

I think it had a couple of things against it. 1 the name was changed. You don’t relocate AND change your name at the same time and expect your customers to just automatically know you are the same people. 2. Once I found out it was the same people I purposely went there because I liked their food. The day I went ( it may have been that day only) as I was walking to the front door I saw a sign that said “cash only” I immediately turned around and left. Never to come back.

Closed due to mismanagement by an unprofessional owner in my opinion.

As usual no one knows the whole story. The rent kept going up in Kennesaw Mtn location. And if you want go to Martin's good luck. They have line for the drive thru that takes over thirty minutes to go thru. Thanks for the pollution. Get off your fat rear end and go in, it's faster, instead of having cars down the street. Then when you get done get on your twenty-one speed bike & hit the silver comet trail w/me. You got the carbs in you & trail right on front of you. Heart disease is not fun.

I went to the original Kennesaw location once right after they announced they were going to be relocating. I was so excited to take my family to the new place when it was supposed to open in Dallas. There was hardly any information posted online about the new location other than what was posted on the door of the Kennesaw location and one article posted by a local news source. After driving around for almost an hour we concluded it wasn't open yet and we never found the building. There was hardly any information information posted online about anything. About a month and a half later, I drove through Dallas to see if it was open yet and I found it. That weekend a friend and I went. It took almost 30 minutes to get a table. The food was still great, but the building was not big enough. I was looking at going this weekend and sad to hear that it has closed. As a consumer, since the Kennesaw location closed, it seemed to be mismanaged. Sad to know it closed since the food was so good.

This restaurant closed just like Mountain Biscuits closed....due to an incompetent owner that didn't know what she was doing. She was too busy spewing hate to build a business and Karma finally bit her in the rear.

When the doors say cash only, and I’m short on time well they just don’t get my business

I live in Marietta and hated to see Mtn biscuit relocate. I understood that the new location was closer to the owner's family. As the article mentioned it is a bit far to drive so never made it to their new spot and very sorry to learn that they closed.
