[OPENING ALERT] Seafood Joint Crab404 Set For September Opening in Sandy Springs

A new restaurant called "Crab404" is setting up shop in Sandy Springs.  The restaurant, which describes itself as a "seafood bar," is opening in Belle Isle Square on Roswell Road, where it will replace Food 101 which closed this past March after 19 years in business.  The roughly 4,600 square foot space is currently under renovation with plans for the new restaurant to open "real soon" according to a Facebook post on the official Crab404 page early Tuesday.

Entrepreneur Jakkrit Tuanphakdee is opening the new restaurant, which despite having a Facebook page up, seems not to have an actual website or menu available yet.

Belle Isle Square, located at the intersection of East Belle Isle and Roswell Roads, is owned by notorious Atlanta-based Dewberry Capital.  The overall 77,000 square foot center is essentially split into two centers, one, to the north with many small shops and restaurants, the other to the south, was previously a Harris Teeter grocery store and later Buckhead Church, before most recently being home to The Chastain School.

Dewberry has reportedly revived plans first submitted in 2014 to redevelop the property but could now be looking to only redevelop the four acre 4967 former school site and not the two acre property where Crab 404 is opening.

The Chastain School moved to, and essentially merged with, St. John Children's Center at St. John United Methodist Church on Mount Paran Road earlier this May.  "The landlord is redeveloping the site and The Chastain School remaining was not an option,” said the school’s leadership team in advance of the move.

The largely small shop center is mostly occupied on its upper level, Roswell Road facing side with such tenants as local restaurants Cibo e Beve and Bangkok Thyme, as well as Roosters, a men's grooming salon, among others.  A roughly 3,500 square foot former BB&T bank branch remains vacant on the corner end opposite to where Crab 404 is opening.

Crab404 is the second seafood restaurant to announce an imminent opening in the area.  ToNeTo Atlanta exclusively reported on August 28 that FLIP Burger Boutique co-founder Barry Mills is opening "Big B's Fish Joint" in the former Verde Taqueria in nearby Gateway.  Mills later told ToNeTo Atlanta that he hopes to open in October after limited interior renovations.

Big B's is slated to be a quick-serve seafood eatery while Crab404 is expected to be a full service restaurant.  Crab404 will be the first in Buckhead of what has become a silly number of crab-centered restaurants that have popped up across metro Atlanta over the past several years.  One of the larger crab chains - The Juicy Crab - is slated to open soon in the former Piccadilly Cafeteria in Howell Mill Square on Howell Mill Road.

Are you excited about the upcoming opening of Crab404?  Should the restaurant instead be called Crab101?  What is your favorite crab joint in town?
