[UPDATE] PNC Bank Plans to Build New Branch on North Decatur

PNC Bank is planning to open a new branch near Decatur next year.  The new, roughly 2,900 square foot bank will be built at 2626 North Decatur Road at its intersection with Church Street, on the site of a shuttered Church's Chicken restaurant.  The fast food eatery abruptly closed in October 2016.  The .6 acre corner site has sat vacant since then.

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based PNC Bank entered the Atlanta market in 2011 with their acquisition of the metro area's 27 Flagstar Bank branches.   Later that year PNC also purchased the Atlanta area branches of RBC, further building their Atlanta network.

Today, PNC Bank is the country's eighth largest bank by assets and ranks 13th in Georgia by deposits, with approximately $3.7 billion in its 68 branches as of late 2018.

In recent years, PNC has opened several Atlanta area branches in place of other business such as at Ansley Mall (Einstein Bros. Bagels), in East Cobb (Exxon), and in Buckhead (Wendy's).

When PNC opened in East Cobb at the corner of Johnson Ferry and Roswell Roads, a company spokesperson indicated that a nearby branch, two miles away near Parkaire Landing shopping center, would remain open.  Not long after the new branch opened, the older branch closed.

PNC's existing Toco Hills branch is about three miles from the new North Decatur branch and there is speculation that the Toco Hills branch will close soon after the new one opens.  Both the Toco Hills branch and the shuttered East Cobb branch were built at Flagstar Bank branches.

The Decatur area branch is expected to open during the first half of next year.

Where do you do the majority of your banking (online, in branch, via mobile device)?  Are you pleased with this redevelopment in the Decatur area?  What type of business do you feel the area is lacking?
