Dallas, Texas-based Studio Movie Grill is moving forward with plans to open a new dine-in movie theater on North Point Parkway at Brixmor Property Group's Mansell Crossing shopping center in Alpharetta. The new theater would replace the former AMC Mansell Crossing 14 which closed June 3 after nearly 25 years in business. Plans for the new Studio Movie Grill were approved by the City of Alpharetta Design Review Board earlier this year. The theater is now seeking approval of several exterior signage requests including one that seeks to "increase the sign area of a wall sign on the rear elevation of the building facing the Big Creek Greenway."
Studio Movie Grill would be the latest in a string of remarkable openings along North Point Parkway. Discussed by many as being on borrowed time following the opening of the mixed-use Avalon project on Old Milton Parkway in 2014, the North Point corridor has continued to absorb large vacancies, often not long after they become available.
Burlington recently opened in a 45,000 square foot former Toys r Us in Mansell Crossing, while Hobby Lobby relocated a Roswell to the 50,000+ square foot former Babies R Us in North Point Marketcenter. REI opened a new approximately 24,000 square foot store in early 2015 at Mansell Crossing in place of a shuttered OfficeMax, while entertainment facility Dave & Buster's opened in the roughly 35,000 square foot former Regal Cinemas North Point Market 8 in May 2017.
Brookfield Property Partners L.P., owners of North Point Mall, are also working on a large, 30 acre redevelopment project. The mall owner plans to redevelop the former two-level Sears department store into apartments, retail space and a new outdoor plaza.
When Studio Movie Grill opens, likely sometime next summer, it will join several theater options in the area. North Point Mall is home to AMC DINE-IN North Point Mall 12, Avalon is home to Regal Avalon 12, The Avenue Forsyth is home to AMC Avenue Forsyth 12, and most recently, CMX CinéBistro opened a ten screen complex at the new Halcyon project in south Forsyth.
Studio Movie Grill operates three other theaters in metro Atlanta. The company entered the market in 2010 when it opened in Holcomb Center in Roswell in a former A&P grocery store along Holcomb Bridge Road. In 2012, the Studio Movie Grill opened in Venture Pointe along Venture Drive in in Duluth where it replaced a former Circuit City store. [Venture Pointe is also owned by Brixmor]. In late 2017, Studio Movie Grill opened in Marietta along Roswell Road where they replaced a long vacant former Sports Authority in the center that was for many years also home to Harry's Farmers Market.
The Studio Movie Grill in Mansell Crossing is the second upcoming theater project for Brixmor in metro Atlanta. ToNeTo Atlanta first reported December 31, 2018 that Brixmor signed a lease with Owosso, Michigan-based NCG Cinemas to open a new location in a long vacant onetime theater in Northeast Plaza along Buford Highway in Brookhaven.

Interesting choice and seems to be too close to the other SMG. Hopefully they have analyzed the market well enough that they don’t impact the Holcomb Bridge location.
I agree. I hope they are not planning on closing, leaving another blight in this area.
Any update on this property? It seems to have come to a screeching halt.
Studio Movie Grill did close their Holcomb Bridge location, move and are repurposing some fixtures from that location inside of the new location on North Point Parkway. This new location in the former AMC Classic Mensell location is anticipated to open sometime towards the end of 2021.
