[RETRO REWIND] Pac-Man Zone Coming to Cobb County Mall

A familiar brand is opening an exciting new concept at Town Center at Cobb in Kennesaw. Pac-Man Zone, owned and operated by Namco USA, will later this spring make its metro Atlanta debut at the Simon owned mall.  Located in a 4,800 square-foot space on the upper level next to Sears, Pac-Man Zone is an arcade built to accommodate over 50 engaging games for people of all ages. "The creators of the legendary video game character Pac-Man have designed a place that provides entertainment and encourages everyone to play together again."
“We strive to bring offerings that encourage the community to visit the center to shop, eat and play,” said Area Director of Marketing & Business Development Shelly Weidner. “Entertaining options like Pac-Man Zone add to the overall shopping and dining experience at Town Center at Cobb.”  Pac-Man Zone will feature iconic games, digital delights and a party area, offering plenty of options for single players or groups.

Developed and released by video game maker Namco in 1980,  maze arcade game Pac-Man has remained a popular title and its characters have been adopted and licensed for dozens of toys, movies, games and other entertainment products.

According to the Pac-Man Play website, there are several versions of the concept with some including cafes and others simply lending the Pac-Man name and branding to existing arcades like "Time Out Powered by Pac-Man."  In Georgia, there is one Time Out Powered by Pac-Man at Dalton Mall (formerly Walnut Square Mall) in Dalton.

Are you excited for the addition of Pac-Man Zone to Town Center at  Cobb?  What was your favorite video game growing up?   Did you ever go to Time Out or Challenges when you were little?

Please share your thoughts below.

Wow that is extremely cool to hear that, I sadly no longer live in Metro Atlanta, but I used to live in Paulding County, Georgia that is so cool that Town Center at Cobb would open this awesome place, unfortunately there is nothing like this near me in Panama City Beach, Florida other than Dave and Busters and the Funland arcade on Front Beach Road I've never been to of course, all my area has now is mostly putt putt.

I love arcades, I wish this wasn’t going into a mall so close to Portal Pinball. In the event that I make the (incredibly long) drive to Kennesaw from where I live and have any time to spare I’d be much more likely to go to Portal.

There was time when large groups of teenagers was annoying. However, now a large group of teens is actually dangerous. So, why would the mall try to attract more trouble?

Anonymous on February 29, 2020 at 3:05 pm Why are you against the idea of it opening in a mall, a mall is already depressing enough without toy stores, book stores, and certain clothing stores or department stores now! 😑 So therefore learn to appreciate the culture and not complain about how close it is to another place? 🤔

Ham on February 29, 2020 at 4:01 pm You obviously want to see Town Center at Cobb turn into a dead mall, teenagers will always be teenagers no matter what, you seriously need to calm down and learn to appreciate culture of malls yourself, that’s the trouble now, kids nowadays have nowhere good to play at anymore not even in the mall. 🤦🏻‍♂️ So therefore just stop with the nonsense please? 🤔

Ham is lost. Get out more dude. When you stay out of touch like that, it sustains the rift between the generations.

Actually, large groups of teens in the 80s were more dangerous than teens playing video games today. Malls need people, and they forgot that removing ways to congregate and loiter actually helps more than it hurts. Arcades help the food court and stores. And of course it helps the mall overall prevent ending up like Gwinnett Place, North and South Dekalb malls.

Pac Man is so basic, but obviously basics are around for a reason, because they stand the test of time. Games today are more about cut scenes and movie moments, not actual game play. I don't want to play a movie, I want to play a GAME. These games offer a basic challenge that appeals to people of all ages.

Maybe Ham should think about that next time instead of having a grandpa-rocking-on-the-porch-in-his-rocking-chair moment. I hope those teens walk all over your lawn!

I live in southeast Atlanta, Town Center is a 45 minute drive minimum from where I live, and I haven’t set foot in it in over 15 years. Literally every other mall in the metro area is closer to my house so I’d rather it go into any of those. In the event I did drive that far and had spare time to play games (which is not often), I’d rather go to the locally owned business with the classic games.

Anonymous on March 3, 2020 at 8:36 Pm I no longer work at Winn Dixie I haven’t updated my bio on Google in awhile, I am now a Pro Loader at Home Depot on Panama City Beach Parkway making a lot more than someone who works there? 😂 Plus what do you have against Winn Dixie, I bet the hell you never been to a Winn Dixie ever? 🤣 I can talk trash about how Kroger is sorry in general, same with Publix being too popular to the point of having high prices? 😂 And in the first place if you are the same person who misspelled my last name again you obviously need mental help. 😂
