[EXCLUSIVE] Famous Franchisee Looks to Hit Home Run with Popeyes in Doraville

A new Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen is planned on the site of Georgia's first McDonald's in Doraville.  The new Popeyes, planned for 5220 Buford Highway, would open on raw land once home to the first McDonald's in Georgia.  The McDonald's, which opened in November 1961, closed in February 2018 after more than 56 years in business.  No reason for the closure was ever given and the restaurant was later demolished with its property made available for redevelopment.

Construction plans indicate that the new, roughly 2,100 square foot Popeyes, will be oriented parallel with Buford Highway rather than perpendicular as the McDonald's had been.  The new orientation will hide all the restaurant's parking in the rear of the roughly .6 acre site.

The new Popeyes is being opened by 755 Restaurant Corporation, an existing multi-unit franchisee of both Popeyes and Krispy Kreme.  755, like its name would suggest, was founded by Braves legend "Hammerin'" Hank Aaron and his wife Billye.  Established in 1996, 755 Restaurant Corporation currently owns and operates 27 Popeyes restaurants and two Krispy Kreme unit in Georgia.

Are you excited for the opening of the new Popeyes in Doraville?  Have you had Popeyes' famous chicken sandwich?  Where else would you like to see Popeyes open in metro Atlanta?

I'd like to see one at the old BK site in Dunwoody Village, but that seems unlikely. Of all the stuff Dunwoody has 3-4 versions of, we don't have any non-CFA chicken joints.

Anonymous on March 3, 2020 at 8:38 PM You seriously got mental issues you commented on the wrong post that we were talking about? 🤣 Plus Popeyes has absolutely nothing to do with where I used to work or currently work at now, I never kept up with Doraville Georgia at all? 😈 For far as Dunwoody same thing except for Perimeter Mall, and the shopping center with Chipotle and Phenix Dragon right down the road in Sandy Springs? 🤣 So therefore you literally have nothing better else to talk about? 🤔

Yes - I'm right inside the perimeter next to Dunwoody and I hate that there is zero fried chicken in the area except for CFA and honestly, I don't even think of CFA as fried chicken. Worst yet, Popeye's headquarter is so close! Why aren't they selling chicken next to headquarters?? Good service would be guaranteed at that location!
