Pizzeria's Closure Leaves a "Big" Hole in Roswell

Big Pie in the Sky Pizzeria has closed its Roswell area restaurant.  The pizzeria, located in a corner space of a small strip center at 1010 Mansell Road, opened in April 2014 and was the second location from founder/owner Dirk Tendick.  The original Big Pie opened in February 2007 and is located at 2090 Baker Road, just off Jiles Road, in Kennesaw.  In a Facebook post announcing the closure, ownership indicates they saw a roughly 80 percent drop in revenue in late March and subsequently temporarily closed as a result.

The permanent closure, effective May 1, was reportedly the result of the extended economic shutdown with ownership indicating they are "simply unable to reopen moving forward."

"It is with much sadness that we are closing down the Roswell store. We had around an 80% drop in Revenue the last weeks in March and couldn't afford to keep staff in the store so we decided to temporarily close. Now that this economic shut down has continued for so long, we are simply unable to reopen moving forward."

"We are thankful that our Kennesaw location was able to sustain decent business and even hire some of the Roswell staff during all this and is still going strong! We truly enjoyed serving the Roswell community for the last 6 years and hate that it is ending like this. We appreciate so much all of our customers and all the memories from our time at the Roswell location. Please come and visit us in Kennesaw if you can and hopefully we can reopen another location in the area in the near future. Please email bigpieinthesky@gmail.com with any questions. Thanks and we hope to see you all again soon!"

Big Pie features huge pizza pies with "slices bigger than your head!" The local restaurant gained national attention when it was featured on Travel Channel's "Man v Food."

As some restaurants start to reopen after being given permission to do so by Governor Kemp, many have elected to remain closed, saying they feel that the time is not yet right (or safe) to re-open.   Big Pie may be one of the first (but sadly, likely not the last) previously thriving Atlanta area restaurants to close as a direct result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

We have reported in recent weeks on several other restaurant closures, but basically all of them were either already planning to close or not doing well and their closures were accelerated by, but not directly the result of, COVID-19.

I worked in one of the neighboring office buildings on a 4 month project in 2017 and it was an office crowd with a great lunch special. So many of these office crowd places are going to fail.

I believe bureaucrats forced it to close and that is the cause of this and many more. A virus is a virus. The bureaucrat gave the date and time that it had to close -not a virus

Hate to see any business put out of business due to conditions out of their control, but there are literally dozens of other Pizza restaurants in the Roswell / Alpharetta area that will fill the void.
