Nearly 30 months after its Alpharetta debut, Chuy's, a Tex-Mex eatery, has closed its location in Liberty Village near Avalon. The 7,000 square foot restaurant opened December 19, 2017 and closed in April. There was reportedly no advance warning to customers of the closure. All exterior signage remains up at the restaurant and a sign posted to the restaurant's front door reads: "We have temporarily closed this restaurant. We apologize for any inconvenience. Thank you." That said, the Alpharetta location has been removed from the Chuy's website and an employee at another location confirmed that the closure is permanent.
The first Atlanta area outpost of Austin, Texas-based Chuy's opened on Perimeter Center West near Perimeter Mall in Dunwoody in 2011. A second location was added on Ernest Barrett Parkway in Kennesaw in 2014. A third location opened at Akers Mill Square near Cumberland Mall in February 2017, but it was closed by March 2019. A fifth location was to open as part of Fuqua Development's Peachtree Corners Town Center development, but plans for that location were abandoned before construction started. Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar opened this past year on the site in Peachtree Corners previously planned for Chuy's.
Sources close to Chuy's indicate that the Alpharetta restaurant, like the Akers Mill location, never performed to the company's expectations. Publicly traded Chuy's, NASDAQ: CHUY, like Darden, NYSE:DRI did with their recent closure of Seasons 52 in Buckhead, likely took advantage of the COVID-19 situation as a rationale to shutter under-performing restaurants.
The remaining Atlanta area Chuy's in Dunwoody and Kennesaw are both open for delivery, takeout and limited inside dining.

no tears lost for large chain mexican restaurants going under. Chuy's food is not great, and is overpriced. Better to patronize locally owned mexican restaurants. Uncle Julio's is next to go.
Not surprised. Went to this location twice and the service was horrible. Night and Day difference from the Perimeter location.
Never ate at Chuy’s when I used to live in Metro Atlanta, sounds like to me either the food and service sucked, oh they are poorly managed one of the three. 🤣

Chuys in Kennesaw is the standard. We go there weekly and management is on top of things! The Alpharetta location seemed busy on weekend nights but it definitely wasn't run as well as the Kennesaw location. Had to be tough with Superica next door, which is def more "Alpharetta"
Many restaurants and retailers (both independent and National brands) are taking advantage of the Covid-19 situation to bail on their leases and businesses which have under performed, however a lot more who sincerely want to operate are going to close if we don't get the economy back open.
Retailers, restaurants, and national gyms are making the excuse it's safety for customers and employees, however the main reason is they can't find employees who want to go back to work who are currently on unemployment who don't want to leave a situation where they are making more not to work than they ever did working.
Landlords need to start enforcing 'continuous operation' clauses and Tenants need to force the hand of employees to come back to work or they'll lose their unemployment benefits.

The food was good tex-mex. The service started well and got worse and worse the longer they were open which was due to poor management
kennesaw's location has abysmal service.
Yeah the reason people are not going back to work is because they make more in unemployment. Sure. And the NBA Finals will be on TV next week.
People are not going to go out unless and until they feel it is safe to do so. You can't force people to patronize you and you can't force workers to work for you. Duh. Maybe our "economy" shouldn't have been based on these concepts to begin with.
Never was a fan of Chuys, tried it a few times at perimeter location, food always came out cold and just seemed very basic mexican food nothing special, and Uncle Julios, I'm surprised they are still open. You are better off going to Willys where its quick, fresh and taste awesome!
Sadly will be missed. Contrary to what others say, the service and food was outstanding. Management did a good job at this location, especially after they brought in a young female manager from Tennessee (I believe).
Southern folks don't like flavorful Mexican. Its sad because something different comes and its unappreciated. Also, happened to Casa Vida.
Unfortunately, I love this kind of mexican food and used to drive over 1-hour (one-way) to eat here.
So sad to see this location close.

I honestly would like to see chuy's come back. The area was just beginning to gain traction but if it does not come back how about a Texas Roadhouse??

The parking was horrible. It was a bad location.
The one in Marietta closed because of poor leadership and a even worse head chef
This is very sad news! Chuy's is one of the only places in Georgia where you can get authentic Tex Mex that tastes wonderful like it should. Their menu is expansive and their sauces are unique...so many varieties for any taste preference. It is such a shame we can't keep good places like this! I would drive 40 min just to eat here and was looking forward to more of that this year. :(
Sucks they closed. We just ate at chueys in Florida and wish they were still open in Alpharetta which was pretty close to our home in Cumming. I hope they didn’t take advantage of the Covid crisis just to appease their shareholders. If so , it doesn’t change how great the Chicka boom boom enchiladas are.
