P.F. Chang's China Bistro has permanently closed its Dunwoody restaurant. Despite still being marked on Google as "Temporarily Closed," all signage has been removed and a note posted to the restaurant's front door confirms the closure is permanent. The Dunwoody restaurant is strangely still listed on the P.F. Chang's website, but is marked as "closed."
Following the closure the Scottsdale, Arizona-based chain operates five locations in Georgia, including three in metro Atlanta. Remaining area P.F. Chang's include those at Cumberland Mall near Smyrna, North Point Mall in Alpharetta and Mall of Georgia in Buford. The chain also has a licensed location at Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport and another at Augusta Mall in Augusta.
The closure of P.F. Chang's in Dunwoody should not be considered a result of COVID-19, although the pandemic may have ultimately accelerated the closing. Sources close to the restaurant indicate that its lease was up in July, and that it had expressed no interest in being part of the new project - Perimeter Marketplace - planned for the site [Ashford Restaurant Park] of it and two already previously shuttered and now demolished former restaurants. Brio Tuscan Grille and McCormick & Schmick's previously closed in the center in August 2017 and January 2018, respectively.
Perimeter Marketplace, being developed by current land owner Branch Properties, is slated to be anchored by a new, roughly 25,000 square foot Publix Super Market, as well as Atlanta's fourth Chopt as well as several other shops and restaurants. The construction of the new center will mean not only that the land that the three restaurants previously occupied be redeveloped, but that the pond in front of the restaurants - often the landing spot for area ducks and geese - be filled in.
Are you sad to see P.F. Chang's close in Dunwoody? Have you dined at any Dunwoody area restaurants that have reopened for dine-in service? What restaurants would you like to see open in Perimeter Marketplace?

Nooooo! Not the pond! I always liked the pond and how the restaurants were sort of tucked away from Ashford-Dunwoody Road behind it. :(
Lousy service and bad attitudes. Bye!
That was once a nice little development with those three restaurants - they used to all be crowded too. But evolution does its thing. There sure don't seem to be many seafood restaurants around anymore. Anyone have a favorite in the Perimeter area? I still miss Goldfish.
Wish the new development kept the pond and fountain. Created a nice, retreat atmosphere instead of just the standard sea of paved parking.
This was a unique spot when the 3 restaurants opened surrounding the pond. Really miss Brio back when Brio was really good. Everything changes....
This development is incredibly frustrating, and I predict will fail financially within a decade.
We're loosing three quality restaurants, some open space and a pond.
We're getting:
1. A publix. There is already a Publix exactly 1.1 miles away at Hammond & Peachtree Dunwoody. There are no or few apartment dwellers nearby who will cater to this supermarket. This Publix will be deserted.
2. A bunch of chain fast-casual restaurants, the ones that have been named are of low quality. If the best restaurant you can name is "CHOPT", then you're not doing very well. I don't know anyone who will be going out of their way for any of these restaurants.
The Publix will be deserted, the Restaurants will be deserted. We've lost some of the few mid-priced restaurants in the area, and we're loosing open space.
WHY IS THIS DEVELOPMENT HAPPENING?
I'd expect that Publix to be a Greenwise Market.
I may miss ducks, though I never saw many. I am truly happy to see less habitat for the traffic-obstructing, discordant-honking, slimy-poop-depositing, airplane-hazarding Canadian (go home!) geese. Good riddance and please don't reproduce. The pond looked nice but not that nice. I look forward to a Racetrac or QT on my short commute, if we ever go back to the office.
Andrew,
while overall I concur that I'm not sure this development will do 'great', there actually are a lot of apartments on the east side of Ashford Dunwoody from around the Ravinia area up to Ashford Parkway. Whether that's enough to help this publix do great, I don't know.
The pond dates all the way back to the early to mid 1980s, when it was created. Some love it; some say that it's actually a filthy algae pool full of goose poo. It was kind of scenic. But it looks like the restaurant era will be slowing down tremendously (since they're not allowed to use their space, and local leaders are not even encouraging people to eat out at restaurants). So I think the three restaurants were like dinosaurs becoming extinct and this type of thing was destined to happen.
Not only is there already a Publix right down the road at P'tree Dunwoody and Hammond, but there is another at Roswell Road and Abernathy and yet another at Chamblee Dunwoody near Mt. Vernon.
I don't think this one will sit empty though as there are a ton of offices in this area so I think it will be busy with people grabbing a few things on their way in and out of work - plus the deli area during lunch.
That area is also pretty saturated with restaurants - at least chain restaurants that can afford the rents this new development will command. I'm not seeing a lot of mom and pop local places being able to go in there.
Lots of traffic in this area, so the opportunity is there. Just has to be a winner / winning concept(s).
Service was terrible for at least 2 years, and the staff realized it. Last time we were there it was so bad we got half out meals and drinks comped.
Having a large QT or Race Track at this entrance from Dunwoody to the Perimeter Center certainly will cheapen or at least make the gate way to the Perimeter Center look like any other suburban office center - Perhaps in Cobb or Gwinnett but too bad it is happening here.
Pei Wei would be great....Papa Murphys pizza take home cook, Houstons, The Keg.... all successful in Dallas Tx
