[EXCLUSIVE] Sprouts Soon to Secure Space in Smyrna Shopping Center

ToNeTo Atlanta has learned that Sprouts Farmers Market plans to open a new store in the soon-to-close Cost Plus World Market space in Smyrna.  The freestanding junior anchor space, which ToNeTo Atlanta reported December 16 will be vacated by Cost Plus as of December 31, will reopen as the fifteenth metro Atlanta location of the Phoenix-based grocer.  Sources tell ToNeTo Atlanta that a lease is not yet signed but that a deal is "imminent."   The approximately 19,000 square foot space sits in an outparcel of Heritage Pavilion shopping center along Cobb Parkway in Cobb County.

Sprouts entered the Atlanta market in 2014 with a store on Scenic Highway in Snellville.  In the years since, the company has grown their presence in the market to include a total of sixteen stores in the state, fourteen of which are in the greater metro Atlanta area.  The company did close their Dunwoody store in late 2018, which reopened this past August as a Lidl store.

In addition to the Smyrna store, which should open in late 2021 or early 2022, another new Sprouts is slated to open later this summer in Buford at Fuqua Development's new The Exchange @ Gwinnett.  The Buford store, which will measure about 23,000 square feet, is in line with what real estate sources tell ToNeTo Atlanta is the grocer's new store model. The Smyrna store will be smaller than this, but reportedly was a market the grocer was intent on penetrating despite the slightly smaller size.  Existing Sprouts in metro Atlanta are 25,000-35,000 square feet.

The new Sprouts will be the second in the Smyrna area and the fourth overall in Cobb County joining existing locations on East-West Connector (Olde Ivy Village), East Cobb (Providence Square) and West Cobb (Parkside West Cobb).

Sprouts brings to Cobb Parkway a new grocery option which in the immediate area can be hard to find save for Costco (membership) and Target (limited grocery options).  ALDI operates a newly renovated store at the corner of Cumberland Boulevard and Spring Road, but the German discount grocer with its cart rental, limited brand names and small format is not for everyone.  In advance of the opening of The Battery Atlanta, there was talk of Sprouts, among others, having expressed interest in being part of the mixed-use development, but nothing ever came to be.

The openings in Buford and Smyrna will give Sprouts a total of eighteen stores in the state, making Georgia the grocer's sixth largest market by store count.  Sprouts' largest market is California where it operates 126 stores.

Are you excited for the opening of Sprouts in Smyrna?  Where do you do the majority of your grocery shopping?  What feature/product/service would you like most to see added to your local grocer?

Very happy with this replacement for Cost Plus. A little small, but I will definitely be a regular shopper there.

The most perfect location for sprouts would be in the now empty Kroger at Cambridge Square in Brookhaven. Then entire center still continues to get so much traffic and so many cars pass by on both Ashford Dunwoodie and Johnson ferry on a daily basis. They would be very wise to take that space before someone else outsmart them and takes it. it has a great demographic, it’s easy to get in and out, the community actually supported Kroger pretty good but literally sprouts is prepared to compete with Publix in an even greater way. There’s still always hundreds of cars in the parking lot. Let’s bring sprouts to Cambridge Square! I think what really killed sprouts and Dunwoodie was parking, that lot did not have a lot of parking and was extremely hard to get in and out. Cambridge Square is easy to get in and out and navigate and again thousands upon thousands of cars pass by on two main roads.

I'll likely frequent this location but man the loading for this store is goofy for a grocer. The back of the store is buried 4 or 5 feet below ground and slopes down and around to a single front loading truck dock that doesn't have any ramping entry or space for a compactor. Usually grocers tend to have at least 2 truck docks, an at sales level back door for hand cart deliveries, and a bay for a compactor or cardboard baler. Without a whole lot of new construction and site work that looks fairly impossible. Great location but it'll definitely be a shoehorn. Hope they can work it all out.

I think what killed Sprouts in Dunwoody is they really had nothing new to offer that wasn't already abundant in Dunwoody. I haven't been to a Sprouts in years and went this past weekend to the Peachtree Corners location because Publix was out of ground pork that my wife needed to make chili. They didn't have any in stock either. So I went across the street to Ingles and found it there. Probably saved a few dollars too and won't be wasting any more time going to Sprouts. BTW, the store was dead - so don't be surprised if that location shutters.

Although I’m a fan of sprouts I do agree they have trouble getting traffic and everyone of their locations. I think Atlantean’s on auto pilot directly to Publix when they need some thing and thus only look at sprouts as a destination trip.

The Sprouts in Smyrna has a really small meat section and rarely keep it stocked. So I never go there for anything meat-specific

Practically within walking distance of my home near Truist park. I shop at Costco, but some packs are just too large. TJ’s is a nuisance to get to so Sprouts should be perfect. Not an Aldi fan at all. Love Publix, but this will be so convenient!
