[SAD STORY] Santorini in Sandy Springs Shutters

Sandy Springs restaurant Santorini Taverna has closed after about two and half years in business.  Located in the Sprouts Farmers Market-anchored Gateway Sandy Springs development, Santorini was a sit down restaurant featuring traditional Greek fare.  Santorini's January 2019 debut followed the September 2018 closure of Cheeky, the original tenant in the space, which had opened in September 2016.  The restaurant occupied a 4,800 square foot space with an expansive patio and will likely receive robust interest.

According to notices on the restaurant's front door, Fulton County Marshals serving a eviction notice may ultimately have led to the restaurant's abrupt closure.  A large dumpster is now stationed outside the restaurant containing a mixture of trash, packaging, equipment and other debris from the restaurant.

Residential eviction moratoriums that were to expire June 30 were extended to July 31, and according to a release from the CDC, the most recent extension is meant to be the final extension issued.  A nationwide commercial eviction moratorium expired on June 30, potentially paving the way for a slew of restaurant, retail and other non-residential evictions to take place.

A "For Lease" sign is now visible in the restaurant's window, as is old Cheeky signage revealed, now that some Santorini signage has been removed.

Santorini was opened by George Tselios, founder and former partner in Landmark Diner and the Marietta Diner and current owner of Gyro City Grill locations in Hiram and Roswell.

Following Santorini's closure, several restaurants remain open in the project including Tupelo Honey Café, Big B's Fish Joint, Chipotle, Kale Me Crazy, TAKA sushi, and Snooze A.M. Eatery which opened in February in the former Urban Cookhouse space.

Are you surprised by Santorini's closure?  What are your thoughts on the residential and commercial eviction moratorium situation in America?  What would you like to see open in place of Santorini in Sandy Springs?

Wish we could have a restaurant that served wild caught fish and organic options as well as a more traditional menu to satisfy all customers.

".....Fulton County Marshals serving a eviction notice may ultimately have led to the restaurant's abrupt closure." Gee, ya really think so? Seems like quite a stretch to me!

One of the few restaurants I liked. The billionaires got richer over the pandemic, but regular people and small businesses s, not so much.

George TSELIOS put this restaurant into a lot debt. Both gyro city locations have also gone out of business George is a very dishonest person and caused these failures

I agree. George is well known for treating his employees badly. The employees at Gyro city in Roswell said he would always scream at them. The Marietta Diner employees can’t stand him but love Gus. George is a thief

Worked at Marietta Diner and George cheated employees out of their pay. Gus is the brains behind the diner. Poor George can’t afford a good toupee

Is George the old man who works nights at the Marietta Diner. He’s dressed in a funeral suit and has a bad toupee. He came to our table and smells like fish
