[EXCLUSIVE] Vulgar Vegan Hopes Your "Fat Azz" Will Support Them in Dunwoody

A new restaurant from the owner of Vulgar Vegan is "coming soon" to Perimeter Mall in Dunwoody.  The restaurant, a sibling of the brand's original location in Stockbridge, is slated to open in the coming months in the mall's first floor food court, across from Chick-fil-A, in the space previously occupied by Dairy Queen.

Vulgar Vegan's first location opened in a 1,720 square foot space in the Kroger-anchored Spivey Junction shopping center along Hudson Bridge Road in Stockbridge this past January.  The restaurant seems to position and brand itself in a way that some might say mimics that of Slutty Vegan, a restaurant started by entrepreneur Pinky Cole in 2018 with three locations now in the Atlanta area:  Ralph David Abernathy Blvd., Edgewood Avenue and in Jonesboro, with additional locations slated for Birmingham and Columbus, Georgia, among others.

Unlike Slutty Vegan, however, which despite its name has garnered a devoted and loyal following and respect in the restaurant community, Vulgar Vegan has seemingly done all it can to be disliked.  The restaurant has an overall 2.5 star rating on Yelp.com with several customers who rated it poorly sharing screen shots of what seems to be them being verbally attacked and called names like "fat azz" "negative negro" and "witch" by the restaurant itself and likely by those associated with the restaurant.

The Better Business Bureau (BBB) has received a total of three reviews of the business, all of which are 1/5 stars indicating the owner verbally assaulted them, wanted to fight them, or disrespected them... or all three.

Vulgar Vegan's menu includes a variety of so-called "vurgers" with incredibly inventive names like the "vulgar vurger" "vacon cheeze burger" and the "bbq vacon vulgar vurger."  The menu also includes assorted "dawgs," "chik'n," and fries.

Waffle Fries?

Vulgar Vegan describes itself as "A Black Owned Plant Based Restaurant With A Serious Attitude!"  Interestingly, its website also says that it was named "Best Vegan Burger of 2019 at the Sweet Auburn Festival," despite the fact that according to the Georgia Secretary of State's office, the business was not registered with the state until December 31, 2020, and did not open to the public until January 2021.  More confusing is the fact that the Vulgar Vegan website displays  "© 2019 Vulgar Vegan Brands, LLC" at the bottom of the homepage.

No doubt aware of the negative attention his restaurant has garnered on social media, restaurant owner Kevin Brown - no, not the Kevin Brown who co-founded Chicken Salad Chick, and not the Kevin Brown who was born in Milledgeville, went to Georgia Tech and was a six-time All Star pitcher - has reportedly adopted a new name for the Perimeter outpost "Mr. Veg'n."

Vulgar Vegan or Mr. Veg'n or whatever it ends up being called definitely fills a void in the area for vegan food options but with the reviews of their existing location as negative as they are, and staffing for restaurants incredibly challenging, one has to wonder how good a second location will be.

Have you ever been to Vulgar Vegan?  Do you think a name change will make all the difference?  What is your favorite vegan restaurant in metro Atlanta?

Please share your thoughts below.

It's clear he was trying to have a "schtick" like Dick's Last Resort. Changing the name for Perimeter obviously means he does not plan to do that there. One can question why one would do that (I would question it as I think Dick's Last Resort is lame). But I think your opinion is a bit misguided and surprising given the knowledge I've seen from you in the past. A new name in an upscale mall 30 miles away from the other location - do you really think many people are going to put 2 & 2 together and figure out Mr. Vegan in Dunwoody and Vulgar Vegan in Stockbridge are related? Do you really think customers in Dunwoody are familiar with a restaurant in a strip mall in Stockbridge?

I don't understand the need to be so "vulgar". That is a total turn-off that stops me cold.

How tacky!! Perimeter Mall hasn't escaped the same type of changes Lenox has undergone.

It was the having a bunch of non-vegan items and lying about it that ultimately sealed it for me. Not to mention the horribly offensive comments that were in NO way funny - racist, misogynistic, etc. It's a HARD pass.

Clearly this blogger is being Nessy and has a personal agenda.

Most importantly -

It’s not vegan.

I was told I would have a paid training/interview. While I was there I was verbally assulted several times by the current employees. The training was not training at all, more so, yelling at me about what I should have done without explaining what needs to be done. Several key items and ingredients were missing, customers complained about the wait times and getting their orders mixed up. I had to tell them I couldn't do anything about it since it was my first day. The employee "training" me yelled that it says no refunds on the receipt. When the owner came in he immediately was rude and condescending. I asked if he brought in the ingredients to make burgers and other sides. He asked when did we run out of that and who said we were out of that? Instead of answering my question or fixing any business related problems. He sent me home early, promised to pay me the same day and never did. Then when I texted him asking when I would be paid, he told me to fill out a 1099 via email. Never sent me the 1099 or w2 forms. When I texted days later about it and told him his attitude was bad and his business was unorganized, he told me he would send the 1099 through snailmail. Worst work environment ever. 0 stars. Mr. Vegn is a hot mess. $saltwatamamirecords

TonetoAtl editor should be ashamed to allow unsubstantiated comments about "employer/employee" issues allowed to be posted in a comment section. Is this site now a vehicle to allows others to bash people's business or report on the positive restaurant's adding culture and economic growth to the city of atlanta? Please stop allowing foolish comments with an obvious agenda, this blog is losing respect..im not the only one who notices.

Honestly this seems odd that you would be "verbally assaulted by current employees" on your first day. So every employee "verbally assaulted" and the owner sent you home after a you questioned his management ability? Then you texted the manager and told him " his business was unorganized his attitude was bad?? Lol Im willing to bet that They were NOT the issue...and after googling your $saltwatamamirecords name aka Hell Cat.. You accused two people via Twitter and Facebook of stealing your children after the state TOOK AWAY YOUR CUSTODY! This is why you cant believe everything you read on unedited blogs..this person clearly has some serious issues and accountability seems to be #1 on the list.

How do you know that? Have you tried there food or just going by what a angry person said?? Do you-know its ILLEGAL to advertise Meat or Dairy products as Vegan? Please do your own research

I agree what a poor example of journalism. This blog has really went downhill... The editor will most likey not post criticism about his/her work, but will bash others. Sad.

I worked here for a little bit as well. Everything salt wata mentioned was true. Owner was extremely rude to all cooks, and cashiers. Not to mention after I quit they refused to give me my last check. The manager quit as well and told me to go through the owner about it. Owner was extremely rude and dismissive to us as employees & customers. To hear a new restaurant being opened is disappointing.

Worked here for a few months and can confirm all of this is true. Please don't be so quick to defend "KB" he didn't pay me either for about 2 weeks of work (non training, actually hired) and was misogynistic and verbally assaulted every other customer that walked in. Including my family after they confronted him about not paying me. One of the lasts texts he sent to me was "see you in court!" Haha.

I'm willing to bet that all of the anonymous rebuttals are from Mr KB himself. Lol

lol right!! the man can go straight to hell

Hopefully ppl give honest reviews and it goes to one star like the Stockbridge location. He has manifested hate among his customers. I’ll never let anyone I love support this man/company.

It’s a spin off of slutty vegan, without the customer service, good atmosphere and great food. I’ll pass
