[CLOSURE ALERT] Wade's Wanes in Smyrna

Just over four years after opening, Wade's Fine Eatery & Good Time Emporium in Smyrna has shuttered.  The restaurant, located at 1061 Concord Road, closed at the end of dinner service on Sunday August 15.  Sources close to Wade's tell ToNeTo Atlanta that the business and the real estate it occupies were sold to an unidentified restaurateur who plans to reopen the restaurant under a new name in the near future.

Wade's Fine Eatery & Good Time Emporium originally opened August 8, 2017 and was the brainchild of co-owner and Smyrna resident Jason McClure.  The two-story restaurant was built from the ground up adjacent to what was then the recently completed Concord Linear Park.  McClure told us at the time of opening that Wade's was to be the first of several Smyrna eateries he planned to open under his "Smyrna Restaurant Concepts" group.

Named for McClure's father Wade, who passed away a few years ago, the restaurant's logo featured a cardinal, as the McClures believe Wade lives on as one.   Wade's was meant to compliment the adjacent park and serve as an amenity for the neighborhood. The restaurant provided assorted yard and table games for patrons to enjoy while at the restaurant, as well as sidewalk chalk for children to draw with on space adjacent to the restaurant.

Wade's had a cumulative 3.5 star rating on Yelp.com with nearly 300 reviews.  That said, four of the restaurant's last five reviews were just one star with the fifth recent review a two star.  Comments from dissatisfied customers included mentions of  poor cleanliness, inadequate staffing and menu outages.

The Wade's Facebook page was last updated June 13 and while there was never any announcement of the closure, the page was updated late Tuesday to reflect that the restaurant is "permanently closed."  A ToNeTo Atlanta reader also reports that there is now signage in the window of the restaurant confirming the closure.

Are you surprised to see Wade's close in Smyrna? What is your favorite Smyrna area restaurant?  What kind of restaurant would you most like to see replace Wade's in Smyrna?

I only went to Wade's a couple times and did not enjoy my experience. I am excited to see what pops up because the building and location are fantastic and I always thought it was a waste.

Surprised closing took this long. Such a nice property with good spaces indoors and out and ample parking. Menu and Beverage shortages were a consistent issue from the earliest days. I once joked to our table better have a backup food and drink order in mind only to have it be true across four orders. Live nearby and wanted this place to succeed but genuine feedback was met with indifference. Here’s hoping for a better approach from the next concept.

The food was not good, the service was not good. Great location. Lots of potential if new owners deliver a quality experience. Wade's did not.

I really liked this place. The staff was always so nice.

Anyone have an inside tip on what’s moving in?

I actually really liked this place too. It always did a bustling patio business and for a long time was very crowded each night. Consistently good burgers, wings, etc...that last time I went a few weeks before they suddenly shuttered, our burgers were so salty they were almost inedible, but that was a one-off for us. I'll miss this place. The Smyrna area is in desperate need of local spots like this. Outside of the little strip of restaurants in the "Smyrna Village" that are pretty old at this point, one must venture down to Vinings or up to Marietta to get the same ambiance that was evident here.

Went to Wade's several times over the years and it was never good. The food and service were bad each time, and it was way overpriced for what you got. I also didn't understand their obsession with bringing you messy foods on a wooden slab instead of a real plate or bowl. I feel bad that they closed, but I'm looking forward to something better coming in to that great location.

Yep, the food served on a wood plank wasn't a good idea. You can't easily sanitize wood...Duh

WE need a GOOD seafod spot in Smyrna--would love a great oyster bar with oyster specials and drink specials and a piano sing-a-long. Some Hennesey Salmon and just some good food. Also--when you bring beautiful drinks that people take photos of--thats a hot!! We also need some good flights for those that dont want a lot but dont want to drink on an empty stomcah--You have to have a smoking burger, good, hot fries and some different flavored ketchups. Also you need gluten free and keto on the menu. Thants all I have for today!

Worst service ever. Walked in, sat there for 10 min all the while the staff were hooting and hollering in the bar ignoring he folks actually paying their salary. Walked out and never went back. Hope the former owner reads this and understands why he lost his business

Filthy. Mediocre food. Try-hard atmosphere.
