[CLOSURE ALERT] Huey Luey's Goes Silencio in Sandy Springs

Huey Luey's Mexican Kitchen & Margarita Bar has shuttered its Sandy Springs restaurant at 6650 Roswell Road.  The two level, 6,500 square foot eatery which opened five years ago reportedly closed earlier this week, which would seem to coincide with the completion of a five year lease. The Sandy Springs closure leaves the locally owned group with two locations, the original in Hiram which opened in 2011, and a second location in Acworth which debuted in 2014.
Huey Luey's was created by serial restaurateur Richard Stoll.  Richard, along with his brother Bobby, previously started and grew Stevi B's "The Ultimate Pizza Buffet," a chain similar to CiCi's Pizza, to 28 locations before selling it to Argonne Capital Group in 2008.  (Today, the chain is down to just thirteen units.) The brother started Cheeseburger Bobby's in 2007, a quick-serve burger chain that now includes thirteen locations.  Richard left the quick-serve burger business to start the full-service Huey Luey's.

The Sandy Springs Huey Luey's was a first generation restaurant space when it opened, having previously hosted retail tenants including Sandy Springs Funhouse, a family entertainment facility, Steinway Piano Galleries, and at one point, a Kroger.  The second floor patio space was all-new for the restaurant and gave it a little more curb appeal in a center it shares with a Goodwill thrift store.
Sources close to the restaurant indicate the former Huey Luey's space has already been leased and a that new restaurant will soon open in its place.

Were you a fan of Huey Luey's?  What is your favorite Mexican restaurant in Sandy Springs?  What kind of restaurant would you like to see replace Huey Luey's in Sandy Springs?

I'm sad to see it go. I have many wonderful memories at this place

They were great when they first opened. Then, they weren’t consistent with the items in their menu. They also changed their manager frequently. We stopped going there 2 yrs ago.

The food was always disappointing here, even after a handful of their $5 margaritas. Would not be surprised if Goodwill expands into this space, of course sandy springs needs more Goodwill square footage :)

Really hate this - was our go-to for nearby office lunches.
Loved their salads, nachos and margaritas. Just no!
On top of that - Uncle Julio's at Perimeter is also closed "due to the current crisis." Just damn. Please Tin Lizzy's - don't fail us now!

They have the best frozen margaritas this side of Las Vegas. Sorry to see them go. They got us through our remodeling in 2020.
