[EXCLUSIVE] Michelin Awarded Ramen Shop to Open in Buckhead

A new ramen restaurant is coming to Buckhead.  Justin Lim, the owner of Okiboru Ramen and Tsukemen has leased space at the Ardmore condos (2277 Peachtree Road), not far from Peachtree Battle, for his new restaurant.  The new location will serve as the second in the Atlanta area under the Okiboru brand following the debut of the first at The Morgan Sandy Springs (formerly Modera Sandy Springs) at the end of 2019.

The new Okiboru opens in place of healthy eatery Karma Farm which itself replaced original tenant, the beloved gastropub, Holeman & Finch. Public House which is closed in 2019 and is expected to reopen later this year in Colony Square.

Steve Josovitz of The Shumacher Group, Inc. represented the landlord but guided all parties to lease execution of the 1,740 square foot space.  In his listing marketing materials, Josovitz described the space as  "State of the Art,"  "Fully equipped and turnkey," including all dining room furniture.

Okiboru makes their our own noodles on-site from scratch using a proprietary recipe, offers a vegetarian broth and is the only ramen shop in Atlanta to make the Michelin Bib Gourmand List.  What is "Bib Gourmand" you might ask?  As Michelin tells it, it's "Not quite a star, but most definitely not a consolation prize, the Bib Gourmand - named after Bibendum, the friendly Michelin Man and the official company mascot for the Michelin Group - is a just-as-esteemed rating that recognizes friendly establishments that serve good food at moderate prices."

The original Okiboru was located in Los Angeles but closed in early 2020. In addition to Okiboru, Lim started in late 2020 a hot chicken concept - Scoville Hot Chicken - a chain he has since expanded to include six locations in metro Atlanta (with three more coming soon) and a single unit that recently opened in New York City.

The planned opening of Okiboru is at least the fourth eatery planned in the area, each slated to backfill a former restaurant.  Another Broken Egg Cafe (ABEC), which last year closed its restaurant in Peachtree Battle shopping center will later this year reopen in the former Imperial Fez restaurant at 2285 Peachtree Road.  For its part, Imperial Fez relocated to the Berkeley Lake community of Gwinnett county in 2020.  The former ABEC space in Peachtree Battle is expected to reopen later this year as Roshambo, a new all-day diner from Unsukay Restaurants, the group behind Muss & Turner's and Local Three, among others.

Also, across the street from Okiboru, Original ChopShop, a new healthy fast casual eatery from Arizona is expected to make its Atlanta debut when they open in a former Panera at Peachtree Square (2274 Peachtree Road.)  The former Restaurant Eugene, a sibling to Holeman & Finch and also owned Linton and Gina Hopkins, was previously expected to reopen as Eugene & Elizabeth's a new concept but those plans were officially scrapped in 2020 and the space remains vacant.

Have you been to Okiboru in Sandy Springs?  Are you excited for the opening of Okiboru in Buckhead?  What upcoming Atlanta area restaurant are you most excited about?

Okiburo is fantastic for simple, basic recipes. My favorite ramen place in north Metro by a good margin.

Jinya is also good, but aims for a different thing.

Lease it to the trendy folks to overpay and make a gourmet meal out of what we ate in college because they were 10/$1.00!
