[EXCLUSIVE] Birmingham Based Bar-B-Q Joint Bound for the Burbs

Where there's smoke, there's fire.  After months of rumors, we are pleased to be able to confirm that Jim 'N Nick's Community Bar-B-Q is coming to Alpharetta!  The new restaurant will open in place of a former KFC at 5150 Windward Parkway, not far from Costco.  ToNeTo Atlanta was first to report on the chicken chain's closure this past January, at which time The Shopping Center Group was marketing the 3,167 square foot building for lease.

Real estate sources tell ToNeTo Atlanta that Jim 'N Nick's has been in discussions to take over the building for several months and that at one point, another prospect, reportedly Raising Cane's, had entered the conversation, but ultimately the Birmingham-based BBQ joint won out.

Founded in 1985, Jim 'N Nick's was acquired by Atlanta-based private equity firm Roark Capital Group in 2017.  Today, the chain has 38 locations open across six states, including eleven in Georgia, its second largest market to Alabama, which has 15.  CEO Larry Ryback announced plans this past fall to open as many as 30 more locations over the next three years.

Recent Atlanta area openings include those in East Cobb in late 2019 and in Sharpsburg, near Peachtree City, in early 2021.

Typically, Jim ‘N Nick’s stores are 5,500 square feet, including a 750-square-foot patio and drive-thru. The brand, however, is working on a newer prototype that will debut in Alpharetta, with future locations of between 3,200 and 4,200 square feet, with a similarly sized patio and drive-thru.

Are you excited to see Jim 'N Nick's is coming to Alpharetta?  What chain BBQ joint do you think does things best in town?  Where else would you like to see Jim 'N Nick's open?

Please share your thoughts below.

Darn. I was really hoping that the old KFC would become a Raising Canes and that Jim N Nicks would locate across the street in the now empty old Chili's restaurant.

Turning right on Hwy 9 is Milton city limit. The restaurant here is still Alpharetta

Have been wondering for months what was going into this empty spot. There's a Cue barbecue place just up Highway 9 from this location, but you can't have too much "cue" and a little competition wouldn't hurt.

Do they serve Alcohol at the Alpharetta location?
