Bits & Bites

Off-price retailer Tuesday Morning confirmed earlier this week that it plans to close its store at Parkaire Landing in East Cobb no later than the end of the year.  The roughly 10,000 square foot store opened in the Kroger-anchored shopping center October 16, 2016.  The Parkaire Landing store served as a replacement for the store the retailer closed at The Fountains of Olde Towne nearby, a center that was redeveloped for a new Northside Hospital facility.  Tuesday Morning's space will reportedly be taken over for an expansion by Kroger.  The Dallas, Texas-based retailer closed three stores in the greater metro Atlanta area in 2020 including those on Barrett Parkway in Towne Center Prado and on Dallas Highway in Village Green shopping center, both in Marietta, as well as a third in Newnan in Newnan Pavilion, a shopping center along busy Bullsboro Drive.

Munster Cravings on November 23 "soft" opened their new location on Main Street in Tucker.  The new shop marks the first standalone for the locally owned cookie shop which got its start in the Chattahoochee Food Works food hall at The Works on the Upper Westside.  The new location occupies 2323 Main Street, a space most recently home to For Better or Wurst.  Owner Veronica Dalzo celebrated the grand opening of her new cookie shop on Saturday November 26.  Originally known as Monster Cookies and later Monster Cravings, the business adopted its current Munster Cravings branding this past February.  One reason for the name change may be that Dalzo, likely looking to replicate the success of Crumbl, is now offering franchises of her cookie business.

A new car wash is under construction on Clairmont Road, a couple of blocks from North Druid Hills Road.  The new car wash replaces the long since shuttered former Chevron auto and fuel center at 1923 Clairmont Road adjacent to Golden Buddha restaurant.

New locations of children's clothing retailers Carter's and OshKosh B'gosh are planned for Town Center Plaza, just off Ernest Barrett Parkway across from Town Center at Cobb in Kennesaw.  The sibling stores will occupy suite 1100, a roughly 5,400 square foot space between TJ Maxx and HomeGoods.

Food City opened its newest Atlanta area grocery store November 9 in Cartersville.  The store, which broke ground this past February, was originally slated to open over the summer.  Located at 1914 Joe Frank Harris Parkway SE, the new store spans more than 59,000 square feet and features a floral boutique, pharmacy, a wine-tasting station, Starbucks Cafe and an offsite fuel center: Food City Gas N’ Go. The new store also features the company’s GoCart curbside pickup service.   Food City parent K-VA-T Food Stores operates 148 retail outlets throughout southeast Kentucky, southwest Virginia, east Tennessee, north Georgia and Alabama.

The McDonough city council on November 21 approved a rezoning request for a new Chick-fil-A restaurant at 50 Willow Lane, off exit 218 of I-75 in McDonough.  The new drive-thru only restaurant will replace an existing QuikTrip gas station at the corner of state route 20 and Willow Lane. QT is building a new, larger fuel center and convenience store closer to the interstate on the site of an old Ruby Tuesday and Waffle House.

Homegoods retailer pOpshelf will open one of its newest Atlanta area locations in Buford.  The new store, opening where a renovated Chuck E. Cheese shuttered this past June, is situated in a 12,000 square foot freestanding outparcel of Marketplace at Millcreek.  The new store will be one of the first we have seen locally to be located literally within a center already home to a similarly positioned store: Five Below.  pOpshelf, owned by Goodlettsville, Tennessee-based Dollar General launched in the fall of 2020 and currently operates two dozen stores in Georgia.  Dollar General, by comparison, operates more than 1,000 stores in Georgia.

Top Korean BBQ & Hot Pot is now open in the former Sweet Tomatoes in Sandy Springs.  ToNeto Atlanta first reported on plans for the new restaurant this past June.  The new restaurant is located at 6340 Peachtree Dunwoody Road in an outparcel of Costco and The Home Depot.

Levi's is now open on the first floor of Perimeter Mall in Dunwoody.  The new store marks the San Francisco-based company's second full-line store in metro Atlanta, joining an existing outpost at Ponce City Market.  The company previously closed a shop at Avalon in Alpharetta.  In addition to the pair of full-line stores, Levi's operates several outlet stores in the greater metro Atlanta area including those at Sugarloaf Mills in Lawrenceville, The Outlet Shoppes at Atlanta in Woodstock, North Georgia Premium Outlets in Dawsonville, Calhoun Outlet Marketplace in Calhoun, as well as Tanger Outlets in Commerce and Locust Grove.

Roshambo "The Diner's Diner" has "soft" opened in Peachtree Battle shopping center in south Buckhead.  The all-day restaurant - serving breakfast, lunch and dinner - seven days a week, replaced Another Broken Egg Cafe which itself reopened in the former Imperial Fez which in 2020 relocated to Berkeley Lake in Gwinnett County.  Roshambo is part of Unsukay, a local restaurant group that also includes Muss & Turner's and MTH Pizza in Smyrna as well as Local Three, Bird Dog Wine Club and the super secretive War Horse speakeasy, all on Northside Parkway in Buckhead.

Zakia, a new Modern Lebanese restaurant from Chef Ian Winslade and Jonathan & Tony Akly, has also "soft" opened at the Prominence Apartments at the corner of Piedmont and Lenox Roads in Buckhead. "Zakia features both classic and modern sharable mezze and chargrilled meat and seafood influenced by the Mediterranean and centered around modern Lebanese cuisine."  The new restaurant is the third eatery from the trio that operates Mission + Market in Buckhead and Tre Vele in Sandy Springs.

Hopefully Food City will open more stores in Georgia! Especially in Marietta. They are a great grocery store. Tired of Kroger and Publix.

Saw Roshambo's prices, I'll be surprised if they last 12 months. But then you know what they say about a fool and money.....

Always sad to see a Tuesday Morning close. It's one of my favorite stores. Hope nothing happens to the Northlake and Snellville locations.
Popshelf is one of my new favorite stores. Love the Tucker location.

Had no idea that Chuck E. Cheese had shuttered in June. I guess they could not compete with Andretti across I-85 on hwy 20.

Food City is awful. It's like the WalMart of grocery stores. Cheap junk. Makes me feel like we live in a Third World basket case.

Agreed, I live in Peachtree Hills and did a double take when I saw the posted menu this weekend while walking through the center….

Then don’t shop there.

there are people who rely on food city.

Then they should shop there. If they don’t depend on it go elsewhere

LoL ... Nothing wrong with Food City. I just went today. Fresh produce and the store is clean. I prefer it over the 1970 Kroger looking stores! Nasty floors, rusty equipment and few lights. Publix is nicer but more expensive.
