Postino WineCafé will open its second Atlanta area restaurant Monday January 23 at Brickworks Atlanta (1000 Marietta Street) in West Midtown. The opening follows the debut of the Arizona-based chain in Atlanta this past September when they opened at Tuxedo Festival near Chastain Park. The chain likes to honor prior tenants of spaces they occupy, with a video tape wall in Buckhead in homage to the Blockbuster Video that occupied it before, and a wall of retro Matchbox cars in West Midtown, an allusion to the space's prior use as a Ford Motor Car dealership.
Humble Pie opened January 18 at The Interlock (1115 Howell Mill Road) in West Midtown. The new pizzeria is from Chefs Ron Hsu and Aaron Phillips, the team behind Atlanta’s acclaimed Lazy Betty in Candler Park and Juniper Cafe which was previously in the Upper Westside but is moving elsewhere "soon." Humble Pie us currently open for dinner Wednesday through Monday, with lunch, weekday happy hour, and a late-night menu slated to launch "at a later time."
Hayakawa, formerly Sushi Hayakawa, soft opened in their new West Midtown location as of December 31. The restaurant got its start on Buford Highway in Doraville in 2008 before announcing in 2021 it was moving to the new Star Metals project at 1055 Howell Mill Road. The restaurant is reservation only, offering a 16 course Omakase Dinner at 6:00pm and 8:30pm, Thursday through Saturday.
Men's apparel boutique H. Stockton will soon relocate their lone remaining shop from Overton Park (3625 Cumberland Boulevard) to Paces Ferry Plaza. In the Whole Foods-anchored center at the corner of West Paces Ferry Road and Northside Parkway, H. Stockton will occupy a nearly 2,500 square foot space currently home to an at&t store. H. Stockton in years past has also operated locations on Forsyth Street in Downtown Atlanta, at Lenox Square in Buckhead, at Symphony Tower in Midtown, and at Park Place in Dunwoody.
Things Remembered, once a mall mainstay with several Atlanta area locations including those at Northlake Mall, Lenox Square, Perimeter Mall, North Point Mall, Cumberland Mall and Mall of Georgia, among others, has closed all of its stores and gone online only. In tandem with Personalization Mall®, this greatly expands the variety of personalized gifts we can offer our customers to help celebrate every occasion with personalized masterpieces." the company said on January 13.
On January 18, retailer Party City filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy with plans to restructure its mounting debt load. Party City’s business had been growing and reached approximately $2.35 billion in revenue by 2019. But facing increasing competition from e-commerce stores and big-box retailers, Party City kept its roughly 850 stores open rather than growing its digital business and adopting a more omni-channel approach. The Woodcliff, New Jersey-based retailer operates 29 stores in Georgia including those in Buckhead, Alpharetta, Tucker, Dunwoody and Buford, among others.
Skincare and facial boutique Heyday opened its newest Atlanta area outpost January 19 at Krog District along the Atlanta BeltLine. The new studio is the third in metro Atlanta for franchisee L5 Skincare. The company in 2022 opened locations at Ashford Lane in Dunwoody and at Midtown Promenade near Piedmont Park. Later this year the company plans to open a fourth Atlanta area location in Buckhead. The Buckhead outpost will share a suite most recently occupied by Mattress Firm, with fellow L5 franchise brand Restore Hyper Wellness. The Buckhead outposts will be situated alongside longtime local favorite The White House Restaurant at 3158 Peachtree Road in Peachtree Plaza shopping center.
PJ's Coffee has closed its lone Atlanta area location. The coffee shop, which opened in October 2020, was located in Alpharetta at 3460 Old Milton Parkway. PJ's occupied a 1,450 square foot endcap space with a drive-thru but was being marketed for sale just two years after opening. The Louisiana-based franchise was once part of the now defunct Raving Brands, a franchisor that included several concepts including Moe's Southwest Grill, Mama Fu's Asian House, Doc Green's and Planet Smoothie, among other concepts. Following the closure in Alpharetta, the only remaining PJ's coffee in Georgia is in Greensboro. (Several years ago, the company also closed a location on Johnson Ferry in East Cobb where Dunkin' operates today.)
Westfield Tavern is slated to open soon in East Cobb. The new restaurant is opening in the former East Cobb Tavern in the Publix-anchored Shallowford Corners shopping center (4404 Shallowford Road). The new bar and eatery is being opened by Erik Tierney, also partner in Whitehall Tavern in Buckhead and Creatwood Tavern in Smyrna. The roughly 4,200 square foot space that Westfield will occupy was home to East Cobb Tavern in January 2020, but it closed soon after due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It briefly reopened before shutting down again in early 2021. Before East Cobb Tavern the space was home to Keegan's Public House.
Dunkin' has officially opened its latest Atlanta area location. The new Dunkin', which ToNeTo Atlanta first reported in April 2022, occupies a former Starbucks at The Prado shopping center along Roswell Road, just inside I-285 in Sandy Springs.
Chick-fil-A at Avalon in Alpharetta, which opened in 2017, closed for a remodel as of January 19 with an expected reopening February 8. "These renovations will provide an enhanced customer experience for our guests and provide optimal efficiency for our team members." the restaurant said.
Chick-fil-A at Briarcliff and North Druid Hills, which was completely rebuilt and reopened in January 2018, is also closed for a remodel. The restaurant will reportedly receive improvements to its drive-thru and dining room areas and a reconfigured "cockpit" to create a more efficient kitchen for a faster drive-thru experience. The Briarcliff restaurant closed as of January 13 and is expected to reopen January 30.
A new Buffalo Wild Wings GO is coming to Lawrenceville. The quick-serve format, already with five locations around metro Atlanta, is joining the tenant lineup at the Publix-anchored Merton Walk shopping center (911 Duluth Highway) with signage already up announcing its imminent arrival. The new "GO" location joins existing Atlanta area outposts of the quick-serve format including those at Georgia Tech, Emory Village, Sandy Springs, Tucker and Cumming. Buffalo Wild Wings GO and its parent restaurant Buffalo Wild Wings are part of Atlanta-based restaurant franchisor Inspire Brands.
Ramen eatery Okiboru is opening its fourth location in metro Atlanta. The new restaurant slated to open later this year at "The Village" at the Mall of Georgia in Buford. The new outpost joins existing Atlanta area locations in Sandy Springs, Buckhead and Duluth. The new 3,659 square foot space is located next to The Cheesecake Factory in a portion of the former FAO Schwarz.
As it continues to optimize its store fleet following its acquisition of Pet People in 2022, Hollywood Feed is closing another Atlanta area store. The Hollywood Feed in Woodlawn Square (1205 Johnson Ferry Road) in East Cobb is slated to close of February 19. In advance of the closure, the store is offering 20 per cent off all in stock merchandise. Hollywood Feed has in recent months also shuttered stores in Buckhead, Dunwoody and Roswell. Following the closures, the Memphis-based retailer will still operate 23 locations across Georgia.
Popular Buckhead houseware and gift boutique House of Hazen is relocating to Alpharetta. The shop, currently located at 26 East Andrews Drive, is moving near The Hamilton Hotel in Downtown Alpharetta. In advance of the planned January 27 closure, owner Rhonda Hazen is offering 50 per cent off everything in the store with Christmas merchandise available at 75 per cent off! Hazen, who recently relocated her personal residence from Buckhead to Alpharetta, originally opened her store in 2017 but looks forward to bringing her business to the Alpharetta community. Hazen tells ToNeTo Atlanta she plans to be open by late spring/early summer.
Interior design and décor boutique Kathryn Leach, previously located at Andrews Square, plans to open in the current House of Hazen space in the coming months.
Women's clothing boutique Cheeky Peach is closing its Buckhead shop to focus on its flagship store on West Clayton Street in Athens. The Buckhead boutique is located at 22 East Andrews Drive and is currently offering 30 per cent off all in stock merchandise in advance of their closure on Friday, January 27.
Madewell is on the move in Buckhead. The trendy retailer that was introduced by parent company J. Crew in 2006 and opened in Lenox Square in 2008, is moving to the Shops Around Lenox. The current Madewell store closed permanently as of January 22, with plans to reopen at the Shops Around Lenox in early March. Although launched exclusively as a women's line, Madewell debuted a men's collection in 2018 and the new space will allow the retailer to carry a wider variety of the men's collection. At the Shops Around Lenox, Madewell will occupy the former home of South Moon Under, a women's boutique that shuttered its Buckhead shop this past October. In addition to its Buckhead outpost, Madewell operates three other Atlanta area stores: Avalon in Alpharetta, Perimeter Mall in Dunwoody and Ponce City Market in Atlanta, which last year relocated and expanded within the project to also offer more men's merchandise.
Billy Reid closed its West Midtown boutique as of Sunday evening, January 22. The boutique, located at Westside Provisions District, reportedly had no closing sale, but instead participated in chain wide sale that included an extra 30 per cent off already reduced items. The retailer's closure follows previous clothing retailers who have shuttered at the project including J. Crew, Steven Alan, and Jack Spade, among others. Another Billy Reid at Buckhead Village District in Buckhead will remain open.
Flight Club Social Darts has opened its first Atlanta area location. The dart, bar & restaurant venue is located at 1055 Howell Mill Road in the new Star Metals project. The UK-based business is basically for darts what Puttshack is to putt-putt or Topgolf is to golf. Atlanta joins other existing US outposts of the brand including those in Las Vegas, Boston, Houston and Chicago with another "coming soon" to Denver.
Sugar Shane's plans open its third overall location in early February at Ponce City Market. Founder Shane Quillin opened his original cookie shop on 14th Street near Georgia Tech during the pandemic craziness of spring 2020. This past summer, Quillin opened a second location along Hammond Drive between Grub (soon Hopdoddy) and The Local Expedition. The new Sugar Shane's will open near fellow dessert purveyors King of Pops, French Broad Chocolate, Five Daughters Bakery, and Honeysuckle Gelato in the market's central food hall.
Wing Ranch has closed in Old Five Points shopping center (2146 Johnson Ferry Road) in Brookhaven. The wing joint's closure follows the sudden November closure of The Righteous Room in the same center.
Hopdoddy Burger Bar will debut its second Atlanta area location January 24 in Sandy Springs. The new restaurant opens in place of fellow burger joint Grub Burger Bar, which Hopdoddy acquired in early 2022. When it opened as Grub in 2018, the restaurant was located in the street level of the Hanover Perimeter apartment development which is today known as Arabelle Perimeter. The restaurant is located near the intersection of Hammond Drive and Peachtree Dunwoody Road at 1110 Hammond Drive. This past October, Hopdoddy debuted its first Atlanta area outpost in the old Grub in Brighten Park in Brookhaven. Two remaining Atlanta area Grub locations at Akers Mill Square near Smyrna and at The Collection at Forsyth in Cumming will also be converted soon with the Smyrna restaurant slated to open January 31 and Forsyth February 7.

The manager at wing ranch was always very slippery so to speak and made up his own rules, his own prices and his own store hours. No wonder, he drove that business into the ground. For all we know that manager was the actual owner. You get out of some thing what you put into it. also, the landlord of that whole property is kind of odd. The way she does business. it would be interesting to see if Dogtopia ultimately opens in that large space formally belonging to blockbuster video mini mini years ago, it will also be interesting to see what comes of the wing branch and the righteous one spaces. I’m so curious as to what used to be on the land where Walgreens is built adjacent to the center if anybody can share and comment.
