[EXCLUSIVE] Whataburger to Debut Latest Atlanta Area Restaurant This Month

Whataburger is slated to debut their latest restaurant March 27 20 23 in Buford, according to a manager at an updated press release from the restaurant.  The new restaurant will be located in an outparcel of The Exchange at Gwinnett, a new mixed use development just off exit 115 of I-85 in Gwinnett County.

The new Whataburger marks the third in metro Atlanta that the San Antonio-based restaurant has opened since last fall.  The first location opened to significant fanfare November 28 in Kennesaw followed by a similar response to the opening in Woodstock January 26.

The Buford restaurant - 2925 Buford Drive - is slated to follow a similar model to the prior openings where the drive-thru opens first and the restaurant ramps up to a time when it debuts its dining room.

At the Exchange at Gwinnett, Whataburger joins a host of existing eateries including Popeyes, MOD Pizza, Starbucks, Chipotle, FIVE GUYS, Jersey Mike's, Planet Smoothie and The Halal Guys, among others.

Whataburger said in 2022 that it planned to add ten more locations to Georgia in 2023, including the Woodstock and Buford restaurants as well as those planned for Cumming, Monroe, Covington, Athens, Snellville, and Dawsonville, but supply chain and construction delays have reportedly cut that number to eight.  Sources say the Cumming location is next in line to open.

ToNeTo Atlanta exclusively reported January 4 that the chain had secured a former Steak 'n Shake on Woodstock Road in Roswell for a new restaurant.  If the company does make use of the existing building, it goes to reason that it could jump other ground up locations and open soon.  The chain has "Texas-sized" aspirations of having 50 new Whataburger restaurants open in Georgia by 2030.

ToNeTo Atlanta is actively tracking at least five additional Whataburger restaurants planned for Georgia, most of which are still OTP, but one of which would potentially be its closest yet to an ITP location.

Have you been to the new Kennesaw Whataburger and/or do you plan to visit the new Woodstock restaurant?  Do you think Whataburger is worth the hype?  Who do you think makes the best fast-food burger?

My daughter and I have hit the Kennesaw location twice in the last 3 weeks. I have to admit that both burgers we have gotten have been excellent. The toppings, condiments, meat, bun... all fantastic. Also the fries have been hot and fresh (I guess because they do not have time to stick around and get old), which makes the meal even better. Just typing this is making me want to stop by and get another burger today!

Could you imagine the service if they opened a restaurant ITp?? The employee turnover rate alone would kill the business!

ITPers are getting jealous again. At least they can still get the filet 'o fish for +$5

Definitely not worth the hype. Sort of gross. Another fast food restaurant. If McDonald's, Wendy's, Burger King is your go to, then this must seem like a good option. Comes down to flavor preference and who has the shortest line.

Once they come out with an Impossible and/or Beyond option… They’ll have my business

I'm honestly shocked it took this long for whataburger to reach the Atlanta area. They had a presence in Mississippi maybe almost 20 years ago but it's closer to Texas I guess. I think whataburger generally has fresher food than most of the competition. The food is hot and tastes better quality. I would compare the taste of the burger to sonic. For fast food, it's worth the hype. I like the culture that surrounds it as well. The branding is cool, you can get merch, etc. I'll hit them up one weekend.

It is worth the hype? Probably not but I have been to the Kennesaw and Woodstock locations and my burger tasted great at both. It's still just fast food so nothing spectacular but I do like it better than McD's, BK, Wendy's and Culver's.
