[ALOHA!] King's Hawaiian Opens First Ever Hello Hilo Restaurant

At long last, a restaurant on which we first reported this past November, is now open! Then referred to as "Project Ohana," and revealed earlier this year to be "Hello Hilo," the new restaurant from the owners of King's Hawaiian has opened its first ever location right here in Georgia.  The new restaurant is located at 1881 Jesse Jewell Parkway in Gainesville in the greater metro Atlanta area.  Hello Hilo is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week from 7 AM until 10 PM.

The new fast-casual restaurant offers "Hawaii-Inspired Eats & Treats" and offers both inside and outside dining - via a covered "lanai" (patio) - in addition to a double drive-thru.  The restaurant gets its name from Hilo, Hawaii, where the Taira family, founders of King's Hawaiian, started their breadmaking business more than 70 years ago.

Hobbie Dubose, a more then fifteen year veteran of Chick-fil-A, serves as General Manager at Hello Hilo.

“Our ohana (team) is excited to share the Hello Hilo experience with the community," said Dubose. “The restaurant is truly a one-of-a-kind destination that you have to see to believe, and the menu offers unique and delicious options for any occasion. We cannot wait for everyone to try it.”

Hello Hilo offers "an oasis amidst the bustling intersection with lush greenery and a colorful exterior designed to evoke the architecture of Hawaii’s Big Island. The Hawaii-inspired menu features breakfast, lunch, and dinner options, a keiki (kids) menu, fun snacks and drinks, and sweet treats found only at Hello Hilo."

Menu options include a Lava Steak Bulgogi bowl, Ham & Swiss sandwich on King's Hawaiian sweet roll, and SPAM Mushubi (SPAM, rice, nori, teriyaki), among other options.  The restaurant also offers its take on the "Dole Whip" known at Hello Hilo as the "Hula Whip," a dairy-free tropical fruit soft serve available in Pineapple Li Hing Mui, Lilikoi Orange, Pineapple, Lychee Lime, Blue Hawaii, Strawberry Guava and Acai Pomegranate.

Hello Hilo's full menu can be viewed here.

In addition to the Gainesville area restaurant, another Hello Hilo was planned for East Cobb, where it was to be built on an undeveloped outparcel of the former Cobb Place 12 Cinemas at the corner of Gordy Parkway and Shallowford Road.  Ultimately, however, as we reported in May, King's Hawaiian found Cobb's Board of Commissioners stipulations too onerous and opted to walk away from the project.

Are you excited for the opening of Hello Hilo?  What Hawaiian food item are you most looking forward to seeing on the menu?  Where else in metro Atlanta would you like to see Hello Hilo open?

Please share your thoughts below.

Still would love to see a location happen in or around East Cobb. The previous site was just too tight.

Do they have the bread there? Freshly baked and warm with real creamery butter?
