Atlanta is finally getting a Whataburger! Yes, Atlanta! Atlanta, like inside the perimeter with an Atlanta address, Atlanta. ToNeTo Atlanta was first to report on the planned restaurant in March 2023. After several false starts, the new Whataburger at 2955 Cobb Parkway, Suite 910 (Akers Mill Square) is expected to open Tuesday January 16, according to an employee at the restaurant.
Since entering metro Atlanta with a location in Kennesaw in late 2022, the Texas-based chain added eleven locations to metro Atlanta in 2023, including locations on Barrett Parkway in Kennesaw, Scenic Highway in Snellville, and Duval Road in Dawsonville this past fall.
According to an announcement Monday, the Akers Mill restaurant is expected to be the 1,000 location nationally for Whataburger with the company planning a special "celebration" to commemorate the opening.
Established by Harmon Dobson in Corpus Christi, Texas in 1950, Whataburger was family owned until 2019 when the Dobson family sold its majority stake to BDT Capital, a Chicago-based investment company.
In partnership with franchisee Made to Order Holdings, LLC, Whataburger expects to open an additional ten Georgia restaurants in 2024.
ToNeTo Atlanta has in recent months reported on several new Whataburger restaurants planned for the greater metro Atlanta area including those planned for Alpharetta, Roswell, Duluth, Grayson, Dahlonega and Oakwood. Our publishing partners at The City Menus report that other Whataburgers are planned for Carrollton and Sharpsburg, between Newnan and Peachtree City, too. Overall, the chain has Texas-sized aspirations of having 50 Whataburger restaurants open in Georgia by 2030.

No, it literally is not. Look at the map. That address is outside the city limits of Atlanta.

Who cares if its City of Atlanta or unincorporated Cobb County Atlanta. Seriously some people just want to either be contrary or just wants to complain. It's close. Not everything has to be in the "CITY" of Atlanta

It's in unincorporated Cobb County with an Atlanta mailing address.
So it's not in any city.
Overrated
The main difference between unincorporated Cobb County and City of Atlanta is in Cobb you actually have a chance to get your business permitted and open in a reasonble time. If this was City of Atlanta, opening would be pushed to spring of 2026.
Then don’t go there. Stay home.

Underrated
While Atlanta City Limits do in fact extend into DeKalb County and a very small part of Clayton County, when one crosses the Chattahoochee River, one leaves Atlanta City Limits, and Fulton County, and go into Cobb County. I believe that the confusion originates with the fact where the Whataburger is located on Akers Mill Road has zip code 30339; therefore when list city on your mail one would say "Atlanta GA". And this goes westward into Cobb County for about 2 1/2 miles until outside I-285.
It’s not in the “city limits.” It’s unincorporated Atlanta. Like Northlake Mall and Perimeter Mall used to be. Atlanta addresses. It’s not just the zip code.
Let's open one in Clayton County, from Texas l love them!
