A new location of popular local bagel shop Emerald City Bagel along the Atlanta BeltLine is finally nearing completion. Located at 678 Edgewood Avenue on the BeltLine level of the 114-unit Citizen apartment community, the new Emerald City Bagel was first announced in 2022 and after sitting seemingly nearly complete for several weeks, we are told the shop plans to open July 8!
Emerald City has a solid 4.3 star rating on Google with nearly 1,000 reviews.
The new location will not only bring their New York-style bagels to the BeltLine, but a more robust beverage program including a wider variety of iced coffee options, according to an employee at the Glenwood shop. Both locations are about 2,000 square feet but also new to the BeltLine location is an "Automat" self-serve window that will reportedly offer grab-and-go hot bagel sandwiches to start, and perhaps other food eventually. The feature is modeled after the Automats of New York, once wildly popular contraptions that functioned like a cross between a vending machine and a cafeteria. The "Automat" at Emerald City Bagels is reportedly being custom made for the bagel shop and will be installed in the coming weeks. Its place is already set at the shop, as is signage directing customers to it as a convenient option while out along the BeltLine.
Metro Atlanta is experiencing a bit of a bagel boom with fellow farmers market success The Bronx Bagel Buggy having opened this past December on Peachtree Road in Chamblee while a third unit of OTP favorite Brooklyn Bagel & Deli is bound for Brookhaven, and a debut location of Dear Friend, Bagels from Spiller Park Coffee owner Dale Donchey is coming to 999 Peachtree in the heart of Midtown.
Emerald City is one of several tenants in the 12,000 square foot "Shoppes at Citizen" project. The bagel shop joins VESTA Fitboxing, a local fitness studio that relocated from Ponce de Leon Avenue and debuted earlier this past January. Popular Alpharetta Beachy spot CHIRINGA, featuring tacos, burgers, and more is also opening in the development, as is Buford Highway favorite Northern China Eatery. The new restaurant will, like the original, feature classic Chinese dishes along with hot pot, bao, dumplings and other classic fare. Fan Zhang, owner of the popular Chinese eatery, plans for the 3,000 square foot restaurant, the second overall, to be the "flagship" location.
If you plan to visit the bagel shop or any of the other tenants and find yourself getting there by means other than the Atlanta BeltLine, it's worth noting that Citizen and The Shoppes seem to carry two addresses: 678 Edgewood Avenue and 665 Auburn Avenue.
Are you excited about the opening of Emerald City Bagels and the "Automat" feature for grab and go options? What is your favorite BeltLine-adjacent restaurant? Who in Atlanta do you think makes the best New York-style bagel?

Someone make sure and complain about the price, then talk about how good Costco bagels are. Then someone complain about crime and how horrible the area is. Then someone write a message in mock ghetto speech and say hookah. Then someone say how drag queens don’t deserve good bagels. Then say its freedom of soeecy. Then this post will be over.
emerald city would do well in the location that was recently 101 bagels in dunwoody
101 wings in buckhead would do well with bagels
