The wait is finally over! Bloomingdale's the outlet store is opening Friday August 30 at Buckhead Station, just off GA 400 in Buckhead. The off-price outlet from upscale department store Bloomingdale's is the first in the state and 21st overall for the New York-based retailer.
ToNeTo Atlanta was first to report on the planned opening in February.
The new Bloomingdale's outlet occupies suite 110A, a roughly 24,000 square foot space representing a little more than half of the former Bed Bath & Beyond space. Bed Bath & Beyond closed its Buckhead store in early 2023 ahead of winding down operations entirely following its bankruptcy and liquidation.
In an updated site plan, property owner Regency Centers indicates that the remaining roughly 16,000 square feet of the former Bed Bath & Beyond is still "Available." (A Spirit Halloween store will soon occupy the space on a temporary basis.)
Saks opened their nearly 27,000 square foot "OFF FIFTH" store at the center in 2016 taking most of what had since the center's December 1996 inception been a Toys R Us.
Bloomingdale's owner Macy's, Inc. introduced Bloomingdale's the outlet store in 2010 and has slowly grown the off-price division to 20 stores in eleven states, including those in Delaware, New Hampshire, and Texas, where the outlet banner is the brand's only presence in the market.
Rival retailer Nordstrom opened two of its off-price "Rack" stores in metro Atlanta in March, bringing the chain's presence in metro Atlanta to six locations.
The arrival of the Bloomingdale's outlet will likely be welcomed by bargain hunters and fashionistas alike, but it's hard not to think back on similar retailers that no longer exist such as Filene's Basement and Loehmann's.
"As the off-price market is currently on fire, it is a great time for Bloomingdale's to expand its Outlet concept," Neil Saunders, Managing Director and Retail Analyst at GlobalData Retail told ToNeTo Atlanta in March. ToNeTo Atlanta shared news of the upcoming outlet store with Saunders, who added, "Over recent years, Macy's has been growing its off-price stores to help sales, but it probably has a lot of scope to open more outlets, including stand-alone ones as opposed to those in Macy's stores. The luxury focus of Bloomingdale's is very much aligned with where demand is strongest right now, especially if brands are being sold at a discount. The great thing about off-price stores like Bloomingdale's Outlet is that they drive regular footfall. Consumers like to visit multiple times to see what's new and to snag a bargain," Saunders added.
Bloomingdale's outlet stores carry merchandise from the legacy department store and other merchandise sourced or specifically produced for the off-price channel.
In metro Atlanta, Bloomingales's currently operates just one full-line store, at Lenox Square in Buckhead. The three level store was reduced from four levels during the pandemic with the lower level now used as a regional call center for Macy's and Bloomingdale's.
The company closed metro Atlanta's other Bloomingdale's, at Perimeter Mall in Dunwoody, in early 2012. The store reopened later in 2012 as a Von Maur department store.
There are currently 33 Bloomingdale's and three smaller format "Bloomie's" stores nationally. According to the Bloomingdales website, a new Bloomie's at "The Grove at Shrewsbury" in Shrewsbury, New Jersey is slated to open November 14.
Have you ever been to a Bloomingdale's the outlet store? What is your favorite off-price retailer? What retailer not currently in metro Atlanta would you like to see enter the market?

Let the shoplifting begin! Buckhood gonna Buckhood.
Thank goodness you don’t have to shop there! My word, you’d just melt into a puddle of milk if you had to visit that area. Heavenly daylights and so and so!!
I agree. I have not gone to Buckhead for years. Nothing there I need or miss.
There was literally a drug-related shooting outside the high-rise condo attached to this plaza just a couple days ago (not to be confused with the murder-suicide at a different Buckhead high-rise just down the street on the same day).
Yes you should stay home and hide in your posies and nightgown. Heavens to mergatroid Myrtle! We mustn’t go out in public or we might see someone who isn’t a straight white Christian!! Yikes and oh my!
Somebody needs to pop Blackhead. But it's too late, it's been festering too long.
Then stay home, we don’t want or need you here. Thanks! Buh bye
I was literally at the Woodstock Outlets on Wednesday and next to the Banana Republic, Polo stores a lady had her dirty skirt hiked up and was taking a dump next to the trash can and saying “oh, oh, oh…” -So things happen at stores outside Buckhead too.
