[ALERT] Mashawi Mediterranean Bringing AYCE Dining to Familar Destination

A new kind of Mediterranean restaurant is coming soon to Roswell.  Mashawi Mediterranean, a restaurant we've heard rumors of for more than two months, is opening in early November!  The restaurant is located at 850 Mansell Road in the freestanding building most recently home to Asian restaurant 12 Lunar.

Mashawi, pronounced Maa-shaa-wee, is an Arabic word referring to any meat or vegetable that can be roasted or barbecued on an open fire.

The new restaurant, being opened by veteran restaurateur Basem Salame, has been described as Fogo de Chao-like but Mediterranean.  The 3,400 square foot restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner, offering a wide variety of grilled meats, fresh salads, and fresh breads, among other offerings.

"Welcome to Mashawi Mediterranean, where Mediterranean dining meets unparalleled indulgence. At Mashawi Mediterranean, we offer a unique dining experience with our one-of-a-kind concept featuring all-you-can-eat Mediterranean meats and kabobs."

To celebrate Mashawi's November 4th upcoming opening, the restaurant will be providing complimentary "cold refreshments" to patrons who dine at the restaurant on opening day starting at 2 pm.  Mashawi will serve only halal meats and will be priced at $55 for all-you-can-eat (AYCE) meats, and $35 for appetizers and salads only.   The same prices apply to both lunch and dinner.  The restaurant will open at 2 pm each day with the exception of Sunday when it will open at noon.

Salame, a native of Jerusalem, also operates Ameer's Mediterranean Grill near Toco Hills (2168 Briarcliff Road).  He also operated another Ameer's a mile away from Mashawi at 695 Holcomb Bridge Road, but it closed in 2017.  The freestanding building was built as a Shoney's but later became Shallot's, then La Voh Thai, then Ameer's Mediterranean Grill. It's currently Kassa's Beer Wine & Spirits.

In opening a style of restaurant that is not common in metro Atlanta, Salame hopes to avoid the issues that led to the closure of his earlier Roswell restaurant and the short life of 12 Lunar which operated in Roswell for less than a year.  Del Taco had earlier opened in the space but lasted just nine months.

Are you excited about the opening of Mashawi in Roswell?  What is your favorite Mediterranean dish?  Do you think Mashawi will break the curse of this restaurant space?

Please share your thoughts below.

I’m confused about this part. Why would lunch hour start at 2pm?

The same prices apply to both lunch and dinner. The restaurant will open at 2 pm each day with the exception of Sunday when it will open at noon.

IKR ... 2pm is not lunch time. Usually 11-2 is the lunch rush. 2-4 is clean up... then happy hour starts. Dinner starts at 5 ... If no one eats the meat from 2-4 then that meat at 5pm is old and chewy. Eek

$55 for lunch! I’ll go to Mr Taco off Holcomb Bridge instead

Hello everyone. Obviously this information above was not released by the owners I know the owners very well. Yes it is one of a kind and yes it will open at 2 pm in the first week of soft opening / training / until they see if there is a demand for early lunch. And for the person who mentioned prices and that price is expensive I like to tell you this place is not for you. This place will serve customers over 15 salads and appetizers besides the fresh. chicken, lamb, beef , seafood , and veggie kabobs for that price when you can go to chipotle and get a stuffed burrito for $16 , this place also serves fresh and healthy food. And for the person who said meat will be old between the hours of 2-5 pm. Obviously you didn’t read the article right. Grilling means right then on the spot No old and no left overs. The owners and his sons and daughters will be running this spot to make sure customers get the best of food service and attention. Everyone is welcome

Omg!!!😱 so excited for this location !!! I loved Ameer’s when it was here, I was so sad when the Holcomb Brige location burned down a few years ago. I’ve already heard about it where everything will be grilled once you get there and many appetizers/sides will be given open seating. All you can eat πŸ˜‹ mmmmm!! You can’t get better than that! RSVP for me, I’m gonna be a regular. Best Mediterranean food around before and I know this will be the same again, I’m drooling thinking about it❤️ Thank you Chef Salame for coming back to Roswell.

FINALLY!! The excitement I have
For this restaurant is more than anyone could imagine. When Ameers here in Roswell burnt down I was devastated but now I see this and I am delighted again. I was a regular at that Ameers so you best believe I will be here too. Thank you so much for coming back to Roswell!!

I have been traveling from Roswell to Atlanta for 6 years just for Mr. Salames food!! I am so excited for yall to open up here again. The food is fresh and truly one of a kind. The most authentic you can get. As someone that is middle eastern, this is the BEST it gets. I can’t wait to go!!!

Don’t knock it till you try itπŸ‘€ it’s expensive, yes. But, you pretty much get unlimited food. Just show up hungry and ready to eat! And before u think about comparing it to fast food, this is the furthest food from it!!

What an amazing experience opening night was at Mashawi! The salads were incredible and so flavorful. The more than a dozen meats had an individual taste and were literally served right off the grill / fire. Free drinks and dessert were a nice treat! And the staff and chef were so personable - more than 5 servers stopped by our table to ensure we were having an unforgettable experience! We will definitely be back…soon!

The funny thing is that you don’t even know where this place is. And never ate here

Actually better than Fogo and Pasador. Much more worth it. Shrimp there is to die for

This is obviously biased. The restaurant opens at 2 and you are commenting about your meal at 1:56 pm. You obviously didn’t eat thereπŸ˜‚

Too funny said...

Our grand opening was the 4th. Did you come and try us while we were closed? Because your comment is from the 2ndπŸ˜‚

Mashawi grills to order. Never leaving meats to dry out. It just wouldn’t make sense to cook all the meat at once?? Not only that, they would need a grill the size of the whole restaurant to cook everything at once.

i had lunch today and met the wonderful owner. He said they would start having hookah next month. It will be nice to have Hookah and Mediterranean so close to Roswell!

This was the best food I have eaten in a long time! The food was phenomenal and so worth it! I was able to try so many new things I normally wouldn’t try but will now be ordering! The price is so worth the endless amount of food and atmosphere!

I just visited this place for their soft opening and I must say I’m very impressed. Everyone was so warm and welcoming and I felt like family as soon as I came through the door, service was excellent. Everybody was enthusiastic and felt like they wanted to be there. It is a comfortable place to come alone with family or with friends. It feels like home. 😌
let’s get into the food, when I say everything was delicious, EVERYTHING WAS DELICIOUS! They are there to take your order and a split second and cater to your needs as needed. If you do go to this place, I do recommend trying their salmon kabob that was cooked to straight perfection, literally chefs kiss! The garlic pita is to die for, kept that coming all night! My favorite thing of the night was the lamb chop! Buttery, juicy everything you could think of!
To everyone that is making negative comments about this place, how about you actually go into the restaurant, sit and take in the ambience and feel how warm and welcoming it really is. You’re all judging a place you’ve only seen from the outside and that’s sad. You complain that prices are high but the food is endless, and for the quality and freshness of the food you’ll be spending that price. Overall I’ll definitely be making another trip there! Thank you for the experience 🫢🏾

So
Don’t know yet about this place but if it’s fresh grilling and salads then of course price is normal Years ago foga was charging that much. And their meats are salty. Rumis does good kebabs but it is not AYCE and you pay $35 plus for a skewer plus rice
