[UPDATE] Latest Closure Leaves 101 Bagel Cafe With Just One Location

101 Bagel Cafe has in recent days closed its location in East Cobb.  Located at 4811 Lower Roswell Road, the bagel and coffee shop occupied a roughly 1,500 square foot space in a three tenant building originally home to a Blockbuster Video.

Prior to the 101 Bagel opening, the space was home to a Baskin-Robbins franchise. The bagel eatery reportedly closed permanently late last week.

101 Bagel Cafe's East Cobb bagel shop opened in an incredibly competitive bagel market.  Local favorite Bagelicious has held court in nearby Market Plaza shopping center for more than three decades and has a tremendously loyal following in the community.  Goldbergs Fine Foods, which operates several locations in metro Atlanta, also has a location close to the upcoming 101 Bagel Cafe.

The closure of 101 Bagel Cafe in East Cobb follows the closure of The Flying Biscuit Cafe in nearby Parkaire Landing in September.

ToNeTo Atlanta readers will recall that 101 Bagel Cafe originally opened in 2012 as a franchise of Florida-based The Original Brooklyn Water Bagel Co., a company that claimed to have the ability to create "Brooklyn-ized water."   In 2018, owner Tony Yang ditched the franchise and launched "101 Bagel Cafe" in its place.  Yang, along with business partner Rob Miller, later opened another outpost in Duluth in early 2019, followed by more recent expansion into East Cobb (April 2022), Dunwoody (December 2022), and Milton (March 2023).

101 Bagel Cafe proudly claimed to feature products with a "101% satisfaction guaranteed."   The bagel shop closed their Akers Mill Square location last July, their Duluth location this past February and  their Dunwoody cafe this past July.  The Akers Mill location was advertised as permanently closed while the Duluth closure was supposedly only temporary, but its space is actively being marketed for lease.  It's unclear what led to the rash of closures, but a ToNeTo Atlanta tipster suggests that there may be financial and tax issues going on behind the scenes putting pressure on the business.

The roughly 1,800 square foot Dunwoody location is not yet being marketed for lease while the former Akers Mill location opened in November as a relocated home of Doc Green's, a local salad and sandwich shop.

Only the franchised Milton/Crabapple location remains open for now.

***In other East Cobb news, the new Guthrie's opened December 16 at 4775 Lower Roswell Road.***

Are you surprised to see 101 Bagel Cafe close its East Cobb location?  Who in metro Atlanta do you think makes the best bagel?  What would you like to see open in place of 101 Bagel Cafe in East Cobb?

I was disappointed. Average bagels at best. Below customer service. Went twice and never went back. Oh well ... Next!

I was a fan of their bagels. Liked them better than Goldberg’s and Bagelicious. I found them to be the closest consistency to NY bagels

Sounds like a good place for a new Sully's Steamers.

Went there a couple of times for lunch. Wanted to get the turkey, bacon, and cheese sandwich they had on their menu and they said they couldn't make it because they don't have turkey bacon. Both times with different cashiers I couldn;t get it thru their head that it was bacon, turkey lunchmeat and cheese not turkey bacon. They must've had a real problem with lots of people wanting turkey bacon but also staff with any common sense.

Last time I was there in the spring, service was bad, not enough staff, AC was broken so hot as hell in there, selling coffee but the coffee urns were all empty and no one available to come out and fill them. Bagels were good though.
