A new kind of restaurant is replacing a longstanding West Midtown classic. After more than fifty years in business, The Olympic Flame, a Greek-owned diner-like restaurant, closed earlier this year. In its place, a group of business partners plans to open Midtown Social Restaurant & Bar, which promises, among other things, to offer "Elevated Vibe Dining."

Social media posts by those involved in Midtown Social suggest that they "closed" on the property in February, but online reviews indicate that The Olympic Flame was still open into June. A permit for "Commercial Alteration" at the Olympic Flame address was filed with the City of Atlanta on June 12, after which Midtown West Hospitality LLC, an entity associated with Midtown Social, was registered with the Georgia Secretary of State's office on June 25.
Subsequent permits were not filed until October, at which point renovations started to begin in earnest.
The old and dated building was given a heavy facelift with plans for the establishment to offer more than one might expect from a less than 2,000 square foot space.
According to various social media posts from those affiliated with the business, Midtown Social will offer breakfast, lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch. The establishment will also function as a " sophisticated lounge."
"Nestled in the flourishing & vibrant Atlanta’s West Midtown area, Midtown Social blends the finest qualities of the modern cocktail bar restaurant with the chic ambiance of a sophisticated lounge to create the perfect mix of elevated vibes & unforgettable experiences."
One of the business partners, Devon "Sleepy" Green and his Sleepless Elite Hospitality, LLC, seems to have interests in several existing Atlanta area lounges and restaurants including brunch restaurant Milk & Honey (with locations in Cascade, Decatur, and McDonough), EMBR Ultra Lounge (in the old Sutra Lounge) on Cresent Avenue in Midtown, and MCK Restaurant & Bar (in the old McKinnon's Louisiane) on Maple Drive in Buckhead.
Midtown Social has a limited website up as well as an Instagram page, but with no indication as to what may be offered on the menu. That said, the restaurant will offer a "social breakfast express" daily from 6am until 2pm.
"Midtown Social aims to redefine the modern “vibe dining” experience with hand crafted cocktails, elevated American cuisine and tailored experiences."
Ownership had hoped to open in December but is now targeting a January debut.
Did you realize The Olympic Flame had closed? Are you excited about the opening of Midtown Social? Are you a fan of "vibe dining"?

Tried Olympic Flame once many years ago and it was about what you would get at a tourist trap cafeteria, and I would rarely see anyone eating there when I drove by, so I'm pretty shocked it lasted this long.
The establishment will also function as a "sophisticated lounge."
- We all know that that means folks.
I'm assuming we'll read about a shooting at this place in the paper.
OMG 😱 ... Sounds like a future crime scene! News at 5!
The AJC will not report it, it makes their target audience look bad
Most people who can add 2 plus 2 know exactly what that means.
Yep, more of your racist comments.
"to create the perfect mix of elevated vibes & unforgettable experiences." Hookah and shootings - pretty unforgettable indeed.
