[UPDATE] CAVA Looks to Replace Former Midtown Convenience Store

A new Cava is planned for Peachtree Street in Midtown.   A recently filed permit with the City of Atlanta indicates the growing Mediterranean quick serve chain is looking to replace the former gas-less QT in the street level of the Viewpoint condo building (855 Peachtree Street) at the corner of 6th and Peachtree Streets, about three blocks north of The Fox Theatre.  

The gas-less QT, which functioned exclusively as a convenience store, closed this past May after eight years in business.  When it closed, a source familiar with landlord Coro Realty Advisors plans told ToNeTo Atlanta that Coro was looking to land a restaurant for the prime corner space.  

At Viewpoint, the roughly 4,000 square foot Cava would join existing eateries Anh's Kitchen and Rush Bowls.  A roughly 1,300 square foot space previously home to the ill-fated BK Lobster remains vacant and available for lease.  

Washington D.C.-based Cava purchased then publicly traded Zoes Kitchen in 2018 and entered the Atlanta market in 2021 when they began to convert Zoes units to the Cava brand. (We continue to receive comments from Zoes fans around the country lamenting this move.) Today, after converting more than 20 metro Atlanta Zoes locations, there are currently a total of 24 Cava locations across Georgia including units in Athens, Columbus, and Peachtree City. 

The company's first non-Zoes converted unit in metro Atlanta opened January 19, 2014 at Summerhill Station (572 Hank Aaron Drive) near the former Turner Field.  

In 2016 the company had just 22 restaurants, that number swelled to 89 in 2019 and reportedly to 377 as of this month.  The company (NYSE: CAVA) went public in 2023 and announced plans to reach 1,000 units across the U.S. by 2032.  After debuting in June 2023 at $42 a share, Cava stock has been on a tear, up more than 151 per cent over the past year, closing Tuesday at $120.50 per share.
