[EXCLUSIVE] Nordstrom Rack to Supply Metro Atlanta With Seventh Store

Nordstrom is bringing another of its off-price "Nordstrom Rack" stores to metro Atlanta.  Newly updated site plans for Johns Creek Town Center in Suwanee confirm that a new Nordstrom Rack is opening in the 31,000 square foot space left vacant earlier this year by the closure of Market by Macy's.

The small format Macy's store opened in August 2022 but was one of the overall seventy stores (across multiple banners) that the parent company closed earlier this year as part of its ongoing efforts to return the company to "sustainable, profitable sales growth."

Prior to Macy's, the space was home to Stein Mart.  The space was originally part of a larger box that opened March 4, 2001 as what would become Atlanta's last Kmart to be built in the state.  That Kmart closed as of April 13, 2003 and its space was later subdivided into several smaller spaces.  An Ulta Beauty store opened as the center in September 2019 in space previously home to the Kmart Garden Center.

With the Nordstrom Rack not yet open, the City of Johns Creek was earlier this month named the #1 Best Place to Live in the nation by U.S. News & World Report in their 2025-2026 list.

The new Nordstrom Rack in Suwanee marks the seventh in Georgia for the off-price retailer.  The company opened new stores in Kennesaw and Snellville last March and also operates stores in Buckhead, Buford, Dunwoody, and Alpharetta. There are also full-line Nordstrom department stores at Phipps Plaza in Buckhead and Perimeter Mall in Dunwoody.  (The company previously operated a third full-line store at Mall of Georgia in Buford, but closed it in October 2014, after which it became a new location of Von Maur.)

Nordstrom, Inc. announced May 20 that Erik, Pete, and Jamie Nordstrom and other members of the Nordstrom family and El Puerto de Liverpool, a Mexican retailer, had completed their previously announced all-cash acquisition of Nordstrom and returned the company to private ownership.

According to the company's website, they currently operate 93 full-line Nordstrom stores and 285 off-price Nordstrom Rack stores, with several more Rack stores slated to open during the second half of 2025.

Are you pleased by the addition of Nordstrom Rack to Johns Creek Town Center?  Did you ever visit Market by Macy's? What is your favorite off-price retailer?

Nordstrom Rack is very hit or miss but sometimes worth the treasure hunt and a much better experience overall than TJM or Marshalls.

Could you give some info about the BP at 704 Whitlock Ave in Marietta, GA? They were doing a huge remodel and then, they just seemed to stop about a year in. Thanks!

Really wish we would get a Nordstrom
Rack in East Cobb so I don’t have to keep driving to Alpharetta!
