[ALERT] Hooters Closes Two More Georgia Restaurants

So-called "breastaurant" chain Hooters has closed two more Georgia restaurants little more than a month after it closed more than 30 restaurants across the country.

The Atlanta-based company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in March.

In June, the company shuttered restaurants at 209 Peachtree Street downtown, and 3550 Gwinnett Place Drive near Gwinnett Place Mall in Duluth.  The company also closed restaurants at 6855 Douglas Boulevard in Douglasville and 1854 Club House Drive in Valdosta.

The two additional closures include the restaurants at 2977 Cobb Parkway (Akers Mill Square) near Cumberland Mall, and 2834 Washington Road in Augusta, not far from Augusta National Golf Club.

"After many years of irreverent fun, our Augusta and Cumberland locations closed on July 23. We thank our loyal customers for all of the amazing memories we made over the years, and we hope to see them at another one of our locations in the near future," Hooters said in a statement.

The Akers Mill Square location will likely be in high demand given its 3,855 square foot size, visibility along Cobb Parkway, and proximity to Truist Park.

The Augusta location is located on high-traffic Washington Road, but the center it sits in front of is not especially compelling.

Despite the brand's struggles, a brand new Hooters opened at The Villages in Florida July 7.

Hooters was established in Clearwater, Florida in 1983, but later relocated its headquarters to metro Atlanta.

Last Junethe company closed about 40 restaurants around the country, including Georgia units in Hiram, McDonough, and Brunswick, where a ground-up restaurant debuted June 17, 2019. The company also closed its Hoots Wings by Hooters (originally Hoot's Righteous Wings) at Madison Yards in Reynoldstown.

Following the closures, Hooters operates nine restaurants in the greater metro Atlanta area, according to its website.  Among those remaining units are restaurants on Holcomb Bridge Road in Roswell, Old Highway 41 in Kennesaw, and Mall of Georgia Boulevard outside the Mall of Georgia in Buford.

Are you surprised to see Hooters close its Cumberland restaurant?  What would you like to see open in place of the Cumberland Hooters?  What are your current thoughts on Hooters as a brand?

That Cumberland store was just awful. The cooks just didn't give a damn about the food. I had a burger the last time I was there and it was just awful. I should have gone to Whataburger which is in the same shopping center. The hooter girls had way to much makeup ... It was like White Lilly flour. Management seemed to give up as well ... Food standard was low and the restaurant could have been cleaner. I'm not sure how it lasted this long. Location is good but everything else was bad. Hopefully they open up something different in the area ... Like Bonchon Korean chicken or bring Fazoli back to the area.

The one at Cumberland would be a great spot for a hookah lounge. There’s none nearby and I think the building is large enough to make it a very rewarding experience with plenty of parking.

Hmmmm…I believe.the Augusta spot is where John Daly has traditionally, amd unsurprisingly, set up his merchandise tables and “meet and greet” in front of his RV every year.

Augusta National Golf Club owns the Hooters building in Augusta and the adjacent shopping center. The entire parcel will becoming parking for The Masters golf tournament when all leases expire

Yeah it was pretty bad. The Kennesaw one was always the best one around, but it’s only a matter of time for that too. The whole chain is doomed.

Transitioning from hooters to hookah should be easy

Every business should have hookah, even preschools and dentist offices. Even macy’s and Barnes&Noble. All should have it, all day long. You seem to wish for that all the time when you mention it so much, let’s do it then! Just for you! 😉

Ate there once with a Vendor for work. It was pitiful watching all these goofy men hitting on these women. If you want to look at women go to Tattletales if you want good food, go anywhere else.

Sad to see the Cumberland location close. When I did temp jobs at Sprint, a bunch of us would go there for lunch or happy hour on Fridays. One of the waitresses that worked there won the Hooters Pageant one year

Tattletales with Burt Convy? A Goodson Todman production?

There were some really nice girls at the Cumberland location. Hate that they lost their gigs. Walk On’s is going to own that area for sports viewing now, because the Taco Mac is not good.
