This past February we reported that STK, the popular New York steakhouse with one existing location in Midtown Atlanta, was planning to open a second location in Buckhead. We have now learned those plans have been cancelled and the steakhouse will not be opening in Buckhead after all.
Del Frisco's Grille opened at the property in 2012, replacing the short-lived craft and craftbar restaurants, concepts from celebrity chef Tom Colicchio. The pair of restaurants opened at what was then The Mansion on Peachtree, A Rosewood Hotel, in late 2008, but closed in early 2011. The hotel became a Mandarin Oriental in 2012 before being reflagged in late 2018 to the current Waldorf Astoria brand. Del Frisco's closed in August 2023.
The Buckhead restaurant space, which spans two publicly accessible floors, includes about 9,000 square feet, and is located at 3376 Peachtree Road, in front of the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel.
The space is once again actively being marketed for lease.
Are you surprised to hear STK has abandoned its plans for this Buckhead restaurant? What is your favorite steakhouse in metro Atlanta? What would you like to see open in place of Del Frisco's Grille in this space?

American Deli or Checkers
Curious what the HOA was opposed to. I work near the midtown location, and have never dined there, but I know the menu is quite expensive, so seems like that would be the kind of desired clientele.
NIMBYs. Why is the Waldorf Astoria HOA (with million dollar+ condos) opposed to a high priced steakhouse nearby? Too many steakhouses in the area?
I'd be pissed too if my $4 million condo lost a quarter of its value in the past 15 years because of how much North Buckhead has gone downhill. The area looks like sh*t and is full of scammer Airbnbs and street racers.
Because of the clientele.
High priced, yes. High end, no. STK is far from upscale. Del Frisco's should have converted its "Grille" concept to a Double Eagle in this space.
Ruth Chris is down the block
STK is too clubby. The noise levels are way above normal restaurants. It is also not a premium steakhouse.
Nailed it.
STK is described as a upscale steakhouse and LOUNGE. It would be a great addition to any other place but Buckhead. By now, everyone knows why.
Something like STK is Ghetto Catnip in that location. While it's certainly a shame, the HOA is correct in wanting those particular "Cats" to stay away.
urban thugs?
Too many high quality steakhouses in Buckhead. You can throw a stone and hit one or two in any direction.
Spirit Halloween
Elleven45 Lounge 2.0! Let's go!
Because it's essentially high-priced Hookah.
If you have funds you can go to stk.
But most of the clientele cannot pay.
But there could be another way.
Make it a hookah lounge and the crowd will boom.
And property values will doom.
Funny and true! I like it.
Someone needs to buy up this whole area from the Waldorf to the Whitley. The area is surrounded by ultra high end demographics, yet is completely under-utilized/occupied by tenants that bring in a bad crowd. Add green space, redevelop/demolish the Class C office buildings and lure office/retail tenants that attract a solid crowd, which will induce additional demand for residential. The redevelopment in the early 2000’s of Columbus Circle in NYC is a great comp.
Once again the Poet nails it! Keep up the great work!
There are too many ghetto apartments in the area at this point. Once it went from mostly condos to mostly rentals and Airbnb's, there was a domino effect of trashy people moving in and normal people moving out--especially during Covid--and it ruined the neighborhood.
Kinda strange to see a Robert A.M. Stern building across the street from the most dangerous mall in America.
The fact that it was “vibey” turned them off.
Very expensive. Good choice
Impossible clientele
Seems like there are certain people on here that are upset about seeing black people in a city that is 60% black.
Simple first step to remedy the issue would be to ban AirBnBs. We’ll see if the next Buckhead Coalition leader has the stones to do what it takes to turn the neighborhood around.
It's not the people; it's how they act. And the fatigue is real.
💯
And hence the answer to all the problems in Atlanta.
@alex "they"? The entire black population? Oh boy..... If you dislike how "they" act so much, why would you live in a city that is the majority "them"?
If you put Hookah in a place, that will attract undesireables. The place that used to be the Peachtree Diner in Roswell was sold when the owner passed away and they turned it into a club w/hookah and unfortunately too much of the "urban" clientele frequents the place.
Latest census puts blacks in the minority in the CoA (49%). Projected that share will continue to decline as cost of living rises in ATL and well-pocketed empty nesters flood into the city.
My point being Atlanta has a high population of black people. Seemingly no matter the article, people on here complain about black people. My point stands of why do they live in a city with one of, if not the, highest concentration of black people in America? The simple answer to that question is it isnt at all what they project and they are racists. End of story.
oh and by the way, you're living in a dream world if you think retired or nearly retired people are clamoring to move to Atlanta. Atlanta real estate is bloated and will suffer the same fate as cities like Austin with a 30% + haircut at some point. Enjoy!
The City of Atlanta real estate won't really suffer (especially midtown area) because of all the student housing needed for Georgia Tech students (and some leftover Georgia State students). Also, a lot of people who hate driving love the condo life there next by Piedmont Park and supermarkets.
Instead of saying “urban” say what you really mean. If you’re going to be that way then own it.
