Wendy's has quietly closed at least two more Atlanta restaurants while at the same time seeing one location reopen years after closing. The two locations that closed are located in Buford and Tucker while the reopened unit is in Duluth.
In Tucker, Wendy's closed at 4453 Hugh Howell Road. The restaurant previously displayed signage that it was temporarily closed, but more recently, all signage has been removed and the restaurant has been marked "permanently closed" on Google and has been removed from the Wendy's website.
DeKalb County property records indicate that the Wendy's was built in 1977, is 2,653 square feet and occupied a .8 acre property.
The Buford Wendy's was located at 4365 Buford Highway, near its intersection with Buford Drive, in an outparcel of the At Home-anchored Buford Square shopping center. A freestanding Pizza Hut closed beside the Wendy's in 2020, leaving the metro with yet another UTBAPH.
Property records indicate the Buford Wendy's was built in 1987, is 2,950 square feet, and sits on .89 acres.
Three other Wendy's shuttered late last year in Acworth, Kennesaw, and Conley as part of the company's plan to close "lower volume restaurants" in "weaker markets." The shuttered units are to be replaced by new locations by the respective franchise operators. Another metro Wendy's closed this past January on Peachtree Boulevard in Chamblee.
There was no reason provided for the more recent closures and interestingly, there are still multiple job listings for the Hugh Howell restaurant.
In other Wendy's news, a local franchisee of the company recently reopened a former Wendy's at 4175 Pleasant Hill Road in Duluth. Carl Hoover of Hoover Foods, Inc. on September 8 reopened the Wendy's that his family first opened in 1987 but had in recent years operated as several independent businesses. Hoover completely gutted and rebuilt the restaurant to incorporate the brand's latest design package.
