[EXCLUSIVE] Vince Closing at Phipps Plaza, Fancy Jewelry Store Coming Soon

Contemporary fashion brand Vince is slated to close its longstanding store at Phipps Plaza at the end of January after nearly sixteen years in business.  The men's and women's clothing store occupies a prominent 1,700 square foot space on the mall's main level, center court.

The Phipps Plaza shop is the only outpost in the state for the New York City-brand, but pieces from the line can be found in retail partners such as Bloomingdale's and Nordstrom, and even discounters like Marshalls and TJ Maxx.

Vince, like Davio's, which closed December 28, occupied space once the home of a large Niketown store.

In place of Vince, several sources tell ToNeTo Atlanta that Phipps Plaza owner Simon Property Group has secured a lease with luxury French jewelry company Van Cleef & Arpels.  The new Van Cleef & Arpels would be the first stand-alone boutique for the luxury brand which currently operates a shop-in-shop within Neiman-Marcus at Lenox Square.  (The shop within Neiman-Marcus is expected to close when the new boutique opens.)

Van Cleef & Arpels is, like many luxury brands, owned by Swiss luxury goods holding company Richemont.  In addition to Van Cleef, Richemont owns Cartier and Vacheron Constantin, both with stores in Phipps Plaza, as well as Montblanc, which has a boutique in Lenox Square.  Panerai and IWC Schaffhausen, also owned by Richemont, have a combo boutique under construction in the old Ferragamo in the "Luxury Wing" of Lenox Square.

The company also owns Alaïa, Baume & Mercier, Chloé, Delvaux, Dunhill, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Mr Porter, Net-a-Porter, Peter Millar, and Piaget, among other brands.

Are you pleased by the changes at Phipps Plaza?  When was the last time you shopped at Phipps Plaza?  Do you think making Phipps Plaza ultra luxury is the right move for the mall?

Please share your thoughts below.

Phipps Plaza, biggest waste of real estate in Atlanta

Phipps is the most dull location and not vibrant with low energy, we always love and the actions at Lenox and Neimans is exceptionally top to the charts when it comes to retail luxury store.

Phipps good and quiet to walking. I like a Saks and Nordstroms. Best shop of the luxury and comforts in Alanta!

I'm convinced that Phipps is exclusively used for money laundering. Any other mall would and should have closed by now.

Phipps Plaza back in the day use to be very nice and upscale. I loved the shopping, old food court/restaurants and the movie theater. The movie theater allowed you to bring in food from the food court. Then SIMON purchased it. It became a circus food hall Legoland hotel gym parking lot restaurant! The clientele became ghetto! The outside of the building looks like MGM Las Vegas. Tacky lipstick ghetto. Bravo real housewives. Lock your doors type of adventure.

Rag & Bone and Theory are both over at buckhead village. That would be a better fit for Vince.

Phipps plaza has lost its luster. now Saks is in bankruptcy as of yesterday , the days of luxury high end shopping are over, the few people who can actually afford to shop there can’t sustain those expensive stores. I went into Chanel at Saks and a Chanel blazer, shoes and skirt with a small Chanel quilted handbag was a whopping $13,000.

Anyone commenting that Phipps or Atlanta retail are dying on an article about effing VAN CLEEF & ARPELS opening needs their head checked.

VC&A opening in Atlanta is proof positive that luxury retail is growing and thriving in the market.

This is the correct answer.. Phipps is really just transitioning to becoming a high end retail destination. This is what the original vision was for Streets of Buckhead or whatever we’re calling it these day, but it didn’t work. Hermes, Jimmy Choo, Dior and a few others all moved over to Phipps and I think that’s now the goal is to appeal to the luxury shopper. I’d be surprised if Legoland lasts once their lease comes up.

I miss the old days of Phipps. The creperie restaurant/Jil Sander store/Gittings Fine Portrature are just a few of the old stores I remember
