Another week, another Arby's closure in metro Atlanta. This time, it's the Arby's at 12180 Highway 92 in Woodstock in Cherokee County. The restaurant, located in an outparcel of the Walmart-anchored Shoppes at Trickum shopping center, closed for good as of April 27, reportedly without advance warning to employees or patrons.
Real estate sources suggest that the now former Arby's in Woodstock is expected to become a new bank.
Arby's has closed more than a half dozen restaurants across the greater metro Atlanta area over the past few months, including those on North Druid Hills Road and in Lindbergh Plaza in late March and early April, respectively.
ToNeTo Atlanta reported in February that Arby's had closed units in East Cobb, Duluth, and Emerson. Arby's, owned by Sandy Springs-based Inspire Brands, has seen several metro Atlanta units close in recent years, including those in Roswell, Alpharetta, Albany, Milton, Buford, Chamblee, Sandy Springs, downtown Atlanta, Buckhead (Chastain Park), and Suwanee.
The latest closure comes on the heels of those in Marietta along Cobb Parkway this past November and in Chamblee along Peachtree Boulevard this past December. In years past, Arby's have also closed on Spring Street in midtown, Vaughn Road in Kennesaw, South Cobb Drive in Smyrna, Metropolitan Parkway in Atlanta, Windy Hill Road in Marietta, and LaVista Road in Tucker, as well as food court locations in Northlake Mall in Tucker, at CNN Center (now The CTR) downtown, and Lenox Square in Buckhead, among others.
ToNeTo Atlanta reported in October 2024 that Arby's had closed its longstanding restaurant on Roswell and Wieuca Roads in Chastain Park. This past June we reported that a new location of Fifth Third Bank is planned in its place, with actual renovation work having just recently started.
Despite all the closures, the company and its franchisees continue to operate about 3,400 restaurants worldwide. Sources suggest that the recent closures were low volume locations and were executed in preparation for parent company's Inspire Brands planned initial public offering (IPO).
Remaining Atlanta area units include those on Howell Mill Road in Atlanta, Hammond Drive in Sandy Springs, State Bridge Road in Johns Creek, and Scenic Highway in Snellville.
Update May 12: A ToNeTo Atlanta reader tells us that an Arby's at 8490 Tara Boulevard in Jonesboro also closed in recent days.
Are you surprised to see so many Arby's close across metro Atlanta? Do you think Inspire going public is a good idea? What is your favorite quick-serve restaurant (QSR)?

I visited this Arby’s in Woodstock a few days before it closed. There were no signs indicating a future closing date. However, before I could order the employee told me on the intercom that they had NO roast beef, and they did not know when they would receive anymore. This is like subway being out of bread or Chick-fil-A being out of chicken. This should have been the obvious notification to me that they were closing.
3,400 restaurants but only a few left in it's home town? At least we know the Sandy Springs location will hang around for a while.
Another brick and mortar bank? I'm glad I'm not a shareholder in whatever bank it is that is opening another bank in this online age.
There's another Arby's, still operating, just 3 miles west on Highway 92... they were likely competing for the same customer-base.
The Arbys on Sandy Plains in Marietta is still open.
The Cumming location off of 141 by the collection closed a few moths ago as well.
The Hwy. 78/Snellville location is still open as well.
Before this location, there was an Arby's about a block up the street next door to McDonalds. It was there for a long time: I worked there (first job) 35 years ago.
There's another Arby's just 3 miles west of this location, also on Hwy 92... I bet they were struggling to compete for the same customer base.
If I'm not mistaken there is another Arby's a few miles away from this same store. Probably just oversaturated the area.
I’m surprised they aren’t trying to convert some of these Arby’s locations to one of Inspire’s other food brands, like Jimmy John’s, Dunkin Donuts, or Buffalo Wild Wings.
Why are they just abandoning them? I thought at least they would clear out the building, maybe sell of the equipment and make some money from it. It’s very odd that they would just abandon the place and leave all the food and equipment behind. That will be a mess when the power shuts off.
Totally sucks. Has Inspire Brands made any statements as to why they are shutting all of these down? The way it's going, Arby's will be completely gone by the end of the year.
I live miles away but stopped for lunch about 5 months ago. The reason I remember it was how pleasant and customer oriendted the counter staff were. Any business would be lucky to have the ones that were working that day.
The way they're closing them down? Don't bet on it.
I guess Arby's we have the Beef is no more.
I worked at Arby’s in Cobb county in the mid 1990s, I remember the store manager a guy named Gary Bartwell trying to get us to sleep with him, we were 19, 20 ish year old females and he was like over 50, what a creep.
