Patak Meat Products, a manufacturer of fine European meats and sausages, has seemingly closed for good. The family-owned business, a staple in the metro food world for more than forty years, suspended its retail business in early 2024, but had continued wholesale sales.
This past March, however, the company filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Georgia.
In the filing, dated March 2, the family run business cited assets of roughly $3.2M and liabilities of just over $4M. The company's most significant asset is its property at 4107 Ewing Road in Austell which measures about 3.8 acres and which the company values at $2.5.
Patak was started by Anthony Patak, a native of the Czech Republic, who sought to bring the European meats he was accustomed to back home to metro Atlanta.
Established in 1981, Patak Meats developed a devoted following for its house-smoked meats and sausages as well as a variety of imported cheeses, chocolates, spices, and more. Anthony's son Alan co-owned the business with daughter-in-law Kelly serving as the store's general manager. Each Patak family member is named in the bankruptcy filing.
The company has not posted about the closure and its website and Facebook page are both down.
Did you know Patak Meat Products had closed? Had you been to Patak Meat Products? Where do you buy the majority of your specialty meats?
