[WOW] Longstanding Meat Shop Quietly Shutters After More Than Forty Years in Business

Patak Meat Products, a manufacturer of fine European meats and sausages, has seemingly closed for good. The family-owned business, a staple in the metro food world for more than forty years, suspended its retail business in early 2024, but had continued wholesale sales.

This past March, however, the company filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Georgia.

In the filing, dated March 2, the family run business cited assets of roughly $3.2M and liabilities of just over $4M.  The company's most significant asset is its property at 4107 Ewing Road in Austell which measures about 3.8 acres and which the company values at $2.5.

Patak was started by Anthony Patak, a native of the Czech Republic, who sought to bring the European meats he was accustomed to back home to metro Atlanta.

Established in 1981, Patak Meats developed a devoted following for its house-smoked meats and sausages as well as a variety of imported cheeses, chocolates, spices, and more.  Anthony's son Alan co-owned the business with daughter-in-law Kelly serving as the store's general manager.  Each Patak family member is named in the bankruptcy filing.

The company has not posted about the closure and its website and Facebook page are both down.

Did you know Patak Meat Products had closed? Had you been to Patak Meat Products?  Where do you buy the majority of your specialty meats?

Please share your thoughts below.

Oh wow. This is sad and shocking. But I have to say (and I know it's mocked on this site) I think their property in Austell would be perfect for a Trader Joe's

I am mocking you as I type this.

I wonder what went wrong. They had the market cornered in their shipping business was huge. It is not the demand that went down. I wish another European could take it over.

This is the HUGE loss for Austell. I miss this place greatly and hurts my heart every time I buy bacon, sausages or any other prepared meat.

That is true. Every time we visited them, they had a line gong out of the door.

LOL.....You must not know where Patak's is located. That would be an awful location for a TJ's.

Tee hee!

You're stalking a poster just because you've decided you don't like what he has posted previously.

Oh! Gasp! We can't have that! People can't disagree with you, it's wounding to your delicate little butthurt soul! But you're doing it passive-aggressively, thinking people won't notice-- what a clever little girl you are!

Wow. Learned about the place years ago and would stop by to pick up various meats and cheese.

Always a long line out the door.

So sorry

They had the massive fire that shut them down for over a year, and when they reopened they could not source the same kind of equipment that they had before and they trimmed their selection significantly especially when it came to things that required drying such as salamis. Then, they could not keep up with demand or schedules once they reopened. They would sell out of certain things and not be able to restock them for long periods of time. I don’t know if it’s their long term closure that led to their secondary issues, but it was never the same after they came back.
