The Chick-fil-A Dwarf House restaurant at 221 Banks Station in Fayetteville is expected to close later this year and be replaced with something far less unique. The Fayette county restaurant, which this year celebrated 35 years in business, is expected to be demolished and replaced with a new "Truett's Chick-fil-A," according to planning materials reviewed by ToNeTo Atlanta.
The Dwarf House concept, built in homage to the late Chick-fil-A founder S. Truett Cathy’s first restaurant, the Dwarf Grill, has been around since 1985. At their peak, there were eleven locations across the greater metro Atlanta area.
These restaurants offer both counter-service and full-service dining and the same menu items as a typical Chick-fil-A in addition to specialty options such as sweet potato soufflé, fried okra, crispy sprouts and corn bread muffins. The menu at Truett's Chick-fil-A is quite similar to the Dwarf House.
The current Fayetteville Dwarf House is about 6,300 square feet, whereas the new Truett's Chick-fil-A is slated to be about 7,500 square feet, nearly twenty per cent larger.
About three miles away, Chick-fil-A is also renovating its Truett's Luau restaurant, a Polynesian-themed Chick-fil-A complete with specialty items like a grilled mahi sandwich and a frosted pineapple dessert. The one-of-a-kind restaurant closed July 30 and is expected to reopen in mid-October, according to reporting from our partners at The City Menus.
ToNeTo Atlanta reported on the company's Dwarf House "scrape & rebuild" projects in 2019 and wondered if the kitchy concept was in danger of extinction. It seems obvious now that the answer to that question is yes.
Chick-fil-A has demolished several Dwarf House restaurants over the past few years including those in Woodstock, Rome, Newnan, Griffin, Stockbridge, and the original in Hapeville. All but the Hapeville Dwarf House were rebuilt and reopened as "Truett's Chick-fil-A" restaurants with both counter-service full-service options and memorabilia meant to honor Cathy's legacy and little red doors to evoke their origins.
The iconic Hapeville location closed in April 2021 and reopened as the Hapeville Dwarf House February 17, 2022. The new location is larger and more modern than its predecessor but maintains its charm and appeal.
ToNeTo Atlanta reported in late 2024 on the planned early 2025 closure of the Dwarf House along Pleasant Hill Road in Duluth. The restaurant closed in February 2025 but instead of being demolished and rebuilt as a new "Truett's Chick-fil-A," the property was abandoned and a new Truett's Chick-fil-A was built several miles away in Loganville.
Following the Fayetteville closure, there will be just three classic Dwarf House restaurants in existence: Forest Park, Jonesboro and Riverdale.

It’s bittersweet to see these unique pieces of Chick-fil-A history disappear. The Dwarf House locations had so much character, from the full-service dining experience to the special menu items and little touches that made them feel different from a standard restaurant.
They’re rebuilding on the same location with a bigger store.
I applied for a part-time job there to try and get ready for college and get my first ever job. Got rejected immediately after I left. I was around by teens so I wasn't sure if it was my interview performance, but the email I got was for "lack of experience". Good riddance, Riverdale Dwarf House is better.
Hapeville is the better Dwarf house you can still go there it is great.
