Soon You Can Reach Cloud 9 at Lenox Square

Roswell-based Cloud 9 Frozen Yogurt & Cupcakes will soon open within the food court at Lenox Square, sans frozen yogurt. Cloud 9 is opening in the vacant space to the left of Chick-Fil-A. The last notable eatery in the space was Arby's, which closed over a year ago. Cloud 9 opened their first
location in Roswell on Woodstock Road in July 2010, and became wildly popular. Earlier this year, Cloud 9 was one of five small family-owned businesses in the U.S. selected by Google to receive support, guidance and $100,000 worth of advertising.

I became familiar with the concept from a CNN video that highlighted small business success stories. The video explained the company's strengths in the competitive yogurt and cupcake market and emphasized the ways in which they differentiate themselves, such as cupcake decorating classes and an emphasis on the community.

Ironically, their location is Roswell is right next to a Chick-Fil-A just like their upcoming Lenox Square location. Being located next to another family owned chain, albeit a little bigger, with over $3 billion in annual sales, Cloud 9 surely gets crossover customers from Chick-Fil-A.

At Lenox Square, Which Wich recently opened in the space vacated by The Wafflery. Originally a Cinnabon, I mentioned this would be a great space for a yogurt shop as there are no fro-yo shops in the mall. While obviously self-serve yogurt would not be an option in a mall setting, it's a little odd that Cloud 9 will open without yogurt at all. I am told that it is a possibility that yogurt may be added down the road, but that it depends on a number of variables and is definitely not set in stone.

Yesterday I dropped by Lenox Square to have a look at the space but it's still boarded up with no signage visible. I reached out to both Cloud 9 and the Lenox Square PR department for word on the opening and was told Thursday and Friday. My guess is that it may not be until early next week, but with all the hoops one must jump through to open anything these days, especially in foodservice, who knows?
