Jimmy John's Finds a Few More Locations to Bring You Freaky Fast Food

Champaign, Illinois-based Jimmy John's Gourmet Sandwiches is opening at least three new Atlanta area locations in midtown and Marietta.

The sandwich shop chain with over 2000 locations across the country already has over 30 locations in Georgia, most of which are in metro Atlanta.

In midtown, two locations will open, one on Monroe Drive, the other on Peachtree Street.  In Marietta, a new Jimmy John's is being built on Powers Ferry Road.

Jimmy John's Monroe Drive location will open in place of Great American Coin Laundry, in a space situated in an outparcel between Ansley Mall and Kroger.  On Peachtree Street, Jimmy John's is opening in Pershing Point Plaza in a space that was previously home to My Friend's Place, another casual sandwich shop.  Pershing Point Plaza is home to Earthlink and near the intersection of Peachtree and 17th Streets.

In Marietta, Jimmy John's is replacing what had been an aging eyesore, previously home to a freestanding Blimpie.  The dated building was torn down a short time ago and construction on the new structure is underway.  Jimmy John's new restaurant is located on Powers Ferry, between Terrell Mill and Delk Road, not far from Powers Ferry Plaza and Delk Spectrum Shopping Center.

Jimmy John's favors "in-line" locations making their new freestanding location in Marietta quite rare.

In addition to Jimmy John's, Subway is also expanding, with plans in the works to open within or in shared space with a number of intown gas stations.

Personally, I'd love for Chicago, Illinois-based Potbelly Sandwich Shop, Orlando, Florida-based Earl of Sandwich or Deerfield, Illinois-based Così to come to Atlanta.

What is your favorite sandwich shop?  What not currently represented chain would you like to see open in Georgia?  What is your "sweet spot" for the price of an average sandwich? Please share your thoughts below.

So happy to be getting a Jimmy John's walking distance from me in the "burbs"! As for sandwich places I'd love to see here in Atlanta, Pret A Manger would be awesome, but I don't expect to see it. Their business model works so much better for walkable cities (i.e. the cities they're already in: NYC, DC, Chi, Bos)

I love Jimmy Johns and I live in that area.
That location was a Burger King,then a Kenny Rogers Roasters before it became a Blimpie.

@Erik,

Thank you for that additional info. That's quite a "rich?" history for such a building. Any idea when it was first built?

Thanks for your comments and continued readership.

Uh, that building was Eatzi's wasn't
it. Since I used to work directly
across the street for years, I don't
remember it ever being a a Burger King, Roasters or a Blimpie.

@Anon RE: Eatzi's,

I think you may have gotten my two posts confused. This post is about new Jimmy John's, one in a former Blimpie / Burger King / Kenny Rogers, the other post is about Modani, a new furniture shop that is opening in Buckhead. Modani is replacing what was an Ethan Allem as CVS Pharmacy has already replaced the first level location that was EatZi's.

Thanks for your comment and readership and sorry for the confusion.

I not sure when that building was built. It was a Burger King in early to mid 1990s. I remember Kenny Rogers Roasters in mid 1990s for about a year or two.
Sadly,when it was a Burger King,a 16 year old boy who was working there was shot and killed during a robbery.

Love Jimmy John's but agree we need Potbelly in ATL. Ate at one in DC this month and it blows all the other fast sandwich shops out of the water!

The old BK on Powers Ferry was probably built in the late 70's-early 80's (I was asst. mgr. there for a few months in 1985 and it was definitely not new then). Company sold it to a franchisee in late 80's, and he failed within a couple years or so.

Agree about Earl Of Sandwich. We ate there almost every day we were at Disney.

There is also a new Jimmy John's grand opening scheduled for Thursday, May 2 at 2949 North Druid Hills Road (which would be somewhere near the "line of demarcation" between Toco Hill and Toco Hills Promenade).

Their April 30 AJC insert says $1.00 8" Sub Sandwiches from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Thursday 5/2. (404)574-6250.

Atlantan99, not sure if my previous post worked, so I'll repeat:

Potbelly and the Earl are sorely needed in Atlanta. Both provide outstanding products and would do brilliantly in Buckhead/Perimeter/Alpharetta areas. As much as I like JJ, their subs are small. At both Potbelly and Earl, you get a substantial size product that is fantastic.
