Aw, Shucks, TOWN Brookhaven Getting New Eatery

Here to Serve's Tom Catherall is not done adding to his Brookhaven empire.

Led by existing concept Noche Tequila & Tapas Bar, Catherall is adding Smash Kitchen & Bar (to the former Stir Crazy) and will also open Shucks Oyster & Wine Bar (in the former The Cup).

Construction took awhile to get going on Smash, and a H2S source tells me it should open in early September followed by Shucks in late October.   Luckily, both are second generation eateries, saving some  conversion and permitting costs.

Shucks gets its name from the shuck, or the shell, of an oyster.

Shucks will be about 1,200 square feet and is inspired by an oyster  eatery Catherall enjoyed on a recent trip to San Francisco.

Oddly enough, there is already an existing eatery in Costa Mesa, California called Shuck Oyster Bar and another eatery in Knoxville, Tennessee called Shuck Raw Bar & Ale.  I gotta think Tom did his homework in naming his new eatery, but I see potential trouble ahead.

Recently, Pizza Shack opened off Dresden Drive in Brookhaven after many months of delays.  The restaurant was to be called Pizza Rock originally but apparently received at least one cease & desist letter which led to the name change.  (Ironically, a simple Google search returns many more eateries called Pizza Shack than Pizza Rock)

Is TOWN Brookhaven maxed out on restaurants or should a long rumored Mexican eatery open in the large corner space opposite CineBistro?  What is your favorite eatery at TOWN Brookhaven?  Who's the weakest eatery in TOWN Brookhaven?

Newk's is the clear winner in my book. It's fun to see all the activity at TB.

A real Mexican restaurant would be a terrific addition, as well as a good Chinese restaurant.

Would love to see a Taco Mac in TB or one of the brewery inspired joints like Gordon Birsch.

There are too many restaurants already. The lack of parking on weekends is ridiculous.

Noisy bars, slow service, lackluster food. Not impressed with anything at TB.

TB's bars and eateries? Gimmicky concepts serving far more hype than substance.

needs a good sports bar with more than a few tv's to watch
