Stream Realty Planning New Midtown Development

A vacant Atlanta restaurant will soon make way for a new development.

Stream Realty Partners plans to redevelop the former home of Bobby & June's Kountry Kitchen into 11,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space. (*Steam is leasing the space on behalf of the owners.)  The project, for now known as "375 14th Street," is slated to open next spring. Jack Arnold of Stream tells me that thus far there are no executed leases, but stopped short of saying they have nothing in the works.

The property is located at the corner of Mecaslin and 14th Streets, very close to the Georgia Tech campus.

375 14th Street will include a number of suites as well as one higher profile endcap space.  The property will also have tiered parking in the rear and limited street level parking in the front.

Bobby & June Kountry Kitchen closed in late 2010 after 30 years in business.  Plans call for the existing structure to be demolished to make way for the new project.

Real estate sources say that nearby Moe's Original BBQ has not performed to company expectations, but that the nearby Jimmy John's (which historically does well near college campuses) is doing well.

What restaurant / retail tenants would you like most to see open at 375 14th Street?  Do you think Moe's Original BBQ is not long for this world?  Do you still miss Bobby & June Kountry Kitchen? Please share your thoughts below.

*A spokesperson for Moe's Original BBQ emailed me to inform me that the 14th Street location actually "exceeds our expectations and will not be going away anytime soon."

These out of town restaurant chains think they're just going to waltz into the big "capital of the Southeast" and blow numbers out of the water. It doesn't work that way - especially in a neighborhood like Midtown/West Midtown that have a burgeoning local dining scene.

Don't plan a business with unreasonable expectations and then you won't underperform. Oh, and it'd help to do some marketing and outreach to your local community. No one in Home Park would know Moes existed if we didn't see it on our way to work.

While I personally am not a fan of Moe's BBQ my husband *loves* it. He and his friends eat there at least once a week! But I agree with Anonymous - we have a great local dining scene!

The issue with that Moes is the are "out" of product all the time in both meal periods. So even with a good product some days you don't want your second or third choice.

My wife and I go to Moes regularly. The food is excellent. I don't think they are going anywhere. Most of the times we go, there are lines out the door.

While Moe's is most definitively a chain-- It is Atlanta born and based--

@Anon RE: Moe's,

I think you are referring to Moe's Southwest Grill, an Atlanta-based chain of burrito shops. The restaurant mentioned in this post is Moe's Original BBQ, a Vail, Colorado-based BBQ chain.

Thanks for your comments and readership.

This article is factually incorrect. Our Atlanta location exceeds our expectations and will not be going away anytime soon. As for running out of food, we are an establishment that prepares all of our food fresh daily. So, come early because, when it's gone, it's gone!

Moe's Original has the Best BBQ in the city! Everything on the menu is really good, even if you aren't a BBQ fan. It's a lot like a meat and three restaurant.
