Bits & Bites

The lunch line at Chipotle's new Lenox Square location
Chipotle Mexican Grill has opened its newest location at Fashion Cafe in Lenox Square. Fittingly, the new restaurant  opened on Cinco de Mayo, and was already drawing large lines at the lunch and dinner hours.

The original Grindhouse Killer Burgers in the Sweet Auburn Curb Market has been sold for a second time since it was opened by Alex Brounstein in 2010.

Salad Express will soon open at the Reserve at LaVista on LaVista Road near Cheshire Bridge Road. The corner space has had a troubled history with previous tenants La Bonne Presse, Cupz & Cake, Java Blues and original tenant, ChocoLaté Coffee all having closed.  Salad Express has existing locations in Peachtree City and Newnan and seems similar to nearly defunct Raving Brands concept, Doc Greens.
A new Bojangles' is coming soon to Commerce.  The new Bojangles' will be built near the intersection of US 441 and I-85.

Banana Republic has closed at Mall of Georgia in Buford.  Mall of Georgia was previously the only enclosed center in Georgia that had all three main Gap Inc. brands. (Old Navy, Gap and Banana Republic).  The Banana Republic space, along with a space on the second floor above it, will be joined to create a larger, two level Forever 21.

El Azteca  on Ponce de Leon Avenue is now known as El Ponce and is reportedly no longer associated with the El Azteca locations in Buckhead, Dunwoody, Sandy Springs and Milton.

Workout Anytime will soon relocate from their current home in south Buckhead at Brookwood Square to to a new space at the Walmart-anchored The District at Howell Mill.  The new space will open near La Parrilla and its relocation was caused by the upcoming redevelopment of Brookwood Square where hundreds of new apartments will soon be built.

Sur la Table plans to celebrate the Grand Opening of its new location on the first level of North Point Mall in Alpharetta on Mother's Day.

Twisted Taco on Wieuca Road near Roswell Road in North Buckhead has been sold.  The restaurant closed in March with the promise that a "new concept" was "coming soon."

Super Target on Venture Drive in Duluth closed this past weekend.  This is the second SuperTarget to have closed in metro Atlanta.  The first to close was in Stone Mountain in 2010.

Thanks for the updates. Great as usual.

I don't understand how 2 Super Targets have closed. I so wish my Target on Cobb Parkway in Smyrna would become a Super Target. Plenty of room with that abandoned Comp USA connected to the Target!

Any thoughts on why Banana Republic failed in a seemingly healthy Mall of Georgia?

AJ- the Duluth location probably closed for the same reason that most of the stores in the nearby Mall failed. Failure to adapt to the changing demographics of the area over the past decade or so.

As far as I can tell, the banana closing at Buford reflects both the macro economics- banana has a brand new CEO after sales declined 4% last year- and micro economics- Buford is more jc Penney and Yankee candle than higher end retailers like Banana.

I just happened to be at Lenox on Monday and ate at that Chipotle. It had the worst staff of any Chipotle I have ever been to. Got multiple parts of the order wrong, were out of sorts, not a good time to be there. I'll cut them some slack, but the Chick-fil-A next door also had a horrible staff, so not sure why both were so bad right next to each other, particularly when both usually have some of the best fast food staff in the business.

Do you mean that the two Targets are closed (completely gone) --or-- do you mean they've just downsized from the "Super" Target format?

Any business across the street from a marta station has a tough time hiring quality staff

That Chick Fil A does not have bad staff, the owner/operator is one of the best in the region (I'm not him) and he has a nice way of requiring professionalism out of all his employees. Trust me. Give another chance. Nothing like the older lady that says "thank you kindly" every time, or something similar.

@Anon RE: Target,

Yes, I'm saying that both the Stone Mountain and Duluth Super Targets closed permanently.

Sorry for the confusion and thanks for your readership!
