Bits & Bites

Phoenix, Arizona-based Sprouts Farmers Market has set August 5th as the opening date for its new store in Roswell Market Place on Alpharetta Highway in Roswell. Sprouts previously announced June 10th as the opening date for its new store at Olde Ivy Village on East West Connector in Smyrna.  Additional new Sprouts Farmers Market locations are planned for Fuqua Development's Piedmont Avenue project near Morningside, as well as their Sugarloaf Marketplace Center in Duluth. (The Duluth location was previously rumored, and has since been confirmed.)  Other Sprouts will open in the new "Gateway" project on Roswell Road in Sandy Springs, as well as in Providence Square on Roswell Road in East Cobb.  There are rumored to be "multiple" other Sprouts planned for metro Atlanta but I've thus far been unable to identify any additional locations.

Bangkok Station, a contemporary new Thai restaurant, opened last week in Buckhead.  Located in the lobby level of the office building at 550 Pharr Road, Bangkok Station serves lunch and dinner.

Pizza Crosta, a new fast casual pizza eatery from the team behind Buckhead Pizza Company, opened earlier this week in the Prado in Sandy Springs.  Pizza Crosta opened in place of the failed evos eatery, on the lower level near Fuego Mundo.  Pizza Crosta, like others in the growing segment offers 10" "design your own" pies for $7.99.

A BP gas station and convenience store I first announced last May is reportedly finally on track and will soon begin construction.  The new BP will be built on vacant land at the corner of Old Peachtree Road and Satellite Boulevard in Suwanee.

Cincinnati-based Kroger reportedly plans to bring at least three more "Kroger Marketplace" stores to Augusta, Cartersville and Dawsonville.  The new stores will each be over 100,000 square feet and offer jewelry, expanded toy and household goods offerings, and fuel.  There are about 100 Marketplace format stores nationwide under a number of Kroger-owned monikers.  The first Kroger Marketplace store in Georgia opened in 2013 in Carrollton. Subsequent Marketplace stores have opened in Athens, Savannah and Gainesville, among other cities.

A new location of Foot Solutions is coming soon to Providence Square in East Cobb.  The franchised retailer specializes in customized arch support and fit footwear for men and women. The new roughly 1,800 square foot Foot Solutions will be located to the right of the upcoming Sprouts Farmers Market.  Foot Solutions has existing Atlanta area locations in Alpharetta, Acworth, Sandy Springs and Buckhead, among other cities.

Longstanding local business Jason's Pawn Shop has closed.  The pawn shop was located in a 2,000 square foot space in North Decatur Plaza, at the corner of North Decatur and Clairmont Roads.

Local organic juice bar Dtox is expected to open their new Westside store late this month at Westside Provisions District. The new shop will be located in a kiosk near the bridge under the covered walkway.  Currently Dtox has locations in Buckhead adjacent to Flywheel, and in midtown on Piedmont Avenue near Ansley Mall.  Another Dtox, currently located in a hidden Buckhead location, will soon relocate to Buckhead Court.

A large new QuikTrip is under construction at the corner of Wade Green and Hickory Grove Roads in Kennesaw.  The large new "Gen 3"  QT convenience store and gas station replaced a number of abandoned structures and as well as a few homes.

Meherwan Irani, founder of Chai Pani (with locations in Asheville, NC and Decatur), announced a name for his previously announced food stall at Ponce City Market. Hosting a preview tasting at 4th & Swift last night, Irani revealed the new restaurant will be called Boti.  Boti, the name for a marinated and skewered piece of meat, will serve Indian street food in a 1,700 square foot space in the market's food hall.  Boti's menu will be largely kebobs but will also feature fresh made naan as well as a full bar.  Boti is expected to open later this fall.

A new location of Baked is coming soon to the Tribute Lofts in the Old 4th Ward.  The original Baked is located on Johnson Ferry Road in East Cobb.  The Tribute Lofts are located at the corner of John Wesley Dobbs Avenue and Boulevard near Freedom Parkway.   Baked owner Scott Bianculli opened the original Baked in 2012 and at first primarily offered freshly prepared take-out options.  Baked's popularity grew and as did its offerings.  Currently, Baked offers dine in, take out, catering, and delivery.  The new Baked will be adjacent to Condesa Coffee and is expected to open late this summer.

I noticed a new QT being built which includes a drive-thru window. I assume the drive-thru is just for food orders, but it reminds me of an old store called the Milk Jug. If memory serves me you could get a variety of convenience store products including beer and never leave your car.

That Sprout's in East Cobb has even more competition than you've mentioned as a Target with a grocery component is 1000ft away in one direction and Rick's Farmers Market is one intersection away in the other. The latter is very small and boutique-y but has a loyal and consistent following for the produce. And that's in addition to the Whole Foods, Trader Joe's etc. you mentioned. I guess if you think of each shopping center as a department store, adding a grocery to Providence Square makes some sense. But they are gonna be under the gun from the get-go at that location.

@Ham, where is this magical QT?

"where is this magical QT?"

Oops. Sorry, this is a new location that just opened next to the Chick-fil-a on HWY 78 in Stone Mountain. When I drove by a few weeks ago it appeared they were going to include a drive-thru, but I called this morning just to confirm and the guy told me they did not. Again, sorry, my mistake, but it does appear to be a pretty impressive convenience store from the street. Also, it’s just down the street from the drive-thru Waffle House.

Also speaking of QT, the former QT at Chamblee Tucker Rd & I85 (before it moved across the street) has been demolished.

Any inkling of what might be going into that space?

After trying to expand to FLA and Wilmington, NC, there are still about 5 Brew Thru stores left on the Outer Banks. You do pay a premium to have a guy yank beers out of the cooler while you sit in the car, but absolutely speeds up the beer run.

LOL @ "After trying to expand to FLA". Brew Thru was not able to be successful on Front Beach Road in PCB (which feels like the beer run capital of the USA).

Any word on how Sprouts is doing in the Atlanta area? I've been to the one in Johns Creek a few times on Saturday morning and the store is almost devoid of customers, a time is expect a grocery to be busy.

@ Stacy

Sprouts in Snellville is always packed, but there is NO competition in that area.

Saw that some home boutique is opening in a long vacant corner space in Town Brookhaven. Cannot remember the name of it but it will be in the space across from Smash at the second intersection after entering the poorly designed, car centric development.

A Sprouts will also be located at the new Parkside of West Cobb shopping center (next to the Avenue at West Cobb).
