Culver's Coming to Kennesaw

Culver's, the Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin-based quick serve burger restaurant has plans to open at least one more location in metro Atlanta.  The new restaurant will be located just off Cobb Parkway at 2454 Kennesaw Due West Road in Kennesaw.

The approximately 4,300 square foot Culver's will be situated alongside an existing ServisFirst Bank branch and an upcoming Dunkin' Donuts location. Sources say that a ground-breaking could be held as soon as this fall, with an opening expected during the first half of next year.

The burger chain, with an almost cult-like following, entered the Georgia market last year with a location in Dawsonville just north of the North Georgia Premium Outlets.  In the months since, the chain has added new Georgia locations in Newnan, Buford, Grovetown (just outside Augusta), Lawrenceville and Canton/Hickory Flat.  A sixth location is under construction in McDonough.

Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, also a new entrant in the Atlanta market and competitor of Culver's, opened a new Kennesaw location last year.  The freestanding restaurant opened on the Barrett Parkway side of the new Kennesaw Marketplace development, about three miles from the upcoming Culver's.

Steak & Shake, also a direct competitor of both Freddy's and Culver's, has operated a restaurant on Barrett Parkway close to Costco for a number of years.  While Steak & Shake does have a good location, right in the middle of all the action and just off I-75, 51 of its 86 Yelp.com reviews (roughly 59%) are one star, leaving one to wonder how long they can survive with newer options opening nearby.

For the uninitiated, Culver's is most well known for their frozen custard and signature "ButterBurgers." Culver's menu also includes a variety of sides such as Wisconsin cheese curds, onion rings and coleslaw, as well as assorted salads and soups.  The popular burger eatery operates over 600 locations in twenty-three states.

Sources say that another Culver's is planned for the Johns Creek/Alpharetta area, but while a franchisee has been selected, a location has not yet been finalized.

Are you excited for the addition of another Culver's to metro Atlanta?  If given the choice of Culver's, Freddy's or Steak & Shake, which would you choose?  Where would you like to see Culver's open next?

Culvers REALLY does not want to be ITP do they? Every location is outside the city.

@Greenwave,

I don't want to speak for Culver's or any other franchise for that matter but commercial real estate ITP is a lot more expensive than it is in OTP burbs like Kennesaw and Alharetta and for that reason, many open first out there before even thinking of coming intown. I'd love for Bojangles' to happen intown but thus far the closest they've come is Northlake and Doraville. Zaxby's didn't get to Buckhead or North DeKalb for a good long time. Culver's may come intown but it doubt it will be anytime soon.

As a 'sconi native I'm excited to not have to drive as far for my occasional Culvers fix. Still waiting for one closer to the braves stadium and my home. I grew up on their burgers and custard and a family friend has run a franchise in Normal, IL for over a decade.

Culver's butter burgers and stale school lunch style fries are grotesque. Only go when I crave custard and cheese curds which is not very often. IMO they will stay OTP because ITP have stereotyped themselves out of their target demographic. Look at their Facebook page and you'll see only people in suburbia begging and pleading for them to come to their communities.

Another cheap burger place in Kennesaw? Too many burger places here. They shouldn't put this one here, it should be closer to the cookout. It would take all their business because they are just nasty or on the other side of the mall. Too many on this side.. The Freddy's is no competition, but its next to the burger 21 which is nothing special and way too expensive. Then there is the Bobby's which is gross. The burger tastes and looks like a puck and its expensive also. If youre going to serve an expensive burger is needs to be grass fed, no hormones and made fresh.

They are known for their small Midwest town locations. The suburbs are a good fit for them.

My family and I love Culver's although I haven't been to Freddy's and would like to try it as well. There is no comparison between Steak and Shake and Culver's.
