Bits & Bites

Pinkberry has closed its frozen yogurt shop within Macy's at Lenox Square.  In its place, Macy's plans to relocate their shop-in-shop Finish Line store from the second floor.  Finish Line is expected to open mid-August.  Pinkberry remains open in Buckhead Triangle next to The Container Store, in Akers Mill Square near Pollo Tropical and in Avalon in Alpharetta.  The company has previously closed locations in Merchants Walk in East Cobb and Perimeter Mall in Dunwoody.

The new HomeGoods at Powers Ferry Square on Roswell Road in north Buckhead is scheduled to open August 19.

Frutta Bowls is now open at Fountain Oaks shopping center on Roswell Road in Sandy Springs.

Tasty China is also now open at Fountain Oaks shopping center.

Both of the Atlanta area The Fresh Market stores that the company announced July 10 would be closing in the coming weeks have already closed.  The two stores were located in Brookhaven near Briarcliff & North Druid Hills Roads, and on Scenic Highway in Snellville.

Labels Resale Boutique recently opened a new location in Sandy Springs.  The new store, located on the second level of the Kroger anchored City Walk shopping center, replaced Jody's 5th Avenue, a similar consignment shop which had been in business in the space for about a dozen years.  Labels operates four existing locations in Buckhead and an outlet in Vinings.  The new Labels is women's only as of now, but ownership is reportedly considering adding men's merchandise in the future.  The move follows a similar one by Finders Keepers consignment in nearby Springs Landing which closed and reopened as the third metro location of Alexis Suitcase, another consignment shop.

Club Pilates is opening a new studio at The Exchange at Hammond near the stalled Sublime Doughnuts at Hammond Drive and Roswell Road in Sandy Springs.

Grand Lux Cafe will open their first Atlanta area location August 7 on the second floor of Phipps Plaza in Buckhead.  The restaurant, an upscale version of its parent company, The Cheesecake Factory, was originally planned for Lenox Square, but The Cheesecake Factory relocated their freestanding location there instead.

Georgia Tire Depot on Johnson Ferry Road in East Cobb has temporarily closed.  The closure, which which will allow the store to complete a full remodel, is due the store's rebranding as Mavis Discount Tire.  Owner Rodney Goldberg has retired from the business, but his son Brad will run the store as Mavis Tire Depot, a branch of the New Jersey-based company that in recent months has entered the Atlanta market by purchasing both Kauffman Tire and DeKalb Tire.  The former Georgia Tire Depot will be the first Atlanta area location to open as Mavis Discount Tire.  The grand reopening is currently scheduled for mid-to-late September.  The store is located at 587 Johnson Ferry Road, across the street from Parkaire Landing shopping center.

A new location of J.R. Crickets is opening in East-West Crossing at 4180 Austell Road in Cobb County.

Dallas Biscuit Company, the latest iteration of the restaurant formerly known as Mountain Biscuit, opened Monday on Old Harris Road in Dallas.  The restaurant, which occupies a former Huddle House, has reportedly been quite busy since opening, a good sign for the restaurant which is located about 30 minutes from its former location.

A second Babalu restaurant is coming to metro Atlanta.  The new restaurant, which follows the concept's first which opened last year in Midtown, will open on Historic Roswell’s popular Canton Street. Opening in early 2019, the new restaurant will be housed in the old Roswell Theatre, which was originally built in 1938. Abe Ruiz, CEO of Babalu’s parent company Eat Here Brands, plans to work with the Roswell Historical Society to maintain the structure’s unique architectural charm.  The restaurant, which will be similar to, but not exactly the same as, the group's existing locations, will feature upscale Latin inspired flavors and will have seating for approximately 155 patrons.

Chick-fil-A announced Wednesday that in 2019 it will open the first of a planned fifteen store launch in Toronto.

J.R. Crickets. When one of those opens up in your community is time to consider moving before property values spiral downward.

I personally Pinkberry but their most recent price increase will likely keep me away except for an occasional visit. Over $7 for a SMALL with toppings.
