Bits & Bites

The "EZ One Price $1.99 Dry Cleaners" that became the EZ One Price $2.29 Dry Cleaners" has now become the even less enticing $2.59 "EZ One Price Dry Cleaners" ... for now.  You must also pay with cash to receive the advertised price.  The first location opened on Roswell Road in Buckhead in 2013, with additional locations added on Roswell Road in Sandy Springs and on Cheshire Bridge Road in Atlanta.
After more than 50 years in the antiques and interiors business, Jane J. Marsden Antiques and Interiors will be closing up shop.  Founded by ADAC Hall of Fame interior designer Jane Marsden, who passed away in 2014, Marsden Antiques is one of the Southeast’s oldest and most renowned dealers of fine English, French, Japanese and Chinese export porcelain, French and English 17th and 18th century furniture, as well as chandeliers, mantels and other decorative items.  Marsden began business as the Brownstone in 1966 in a small location off Peachtree Road in Buckhead.  From its modest beginnings, Jane Marsden Antiques grew through the years while remaining in the Peachtree Battle area.  In 1987, the business moved to its current location of over 7,000 square feet within the Peachtree Decorative Arts Plaza (PDAP) at 2300 Peachtree Road.  The business continues today under the direction of daughter Janie Marsden Willis, IIDA, who is also an interior designer; and her husband Mike Willis.  In the process of winding down the business, beginning September 4, there will be an inventory reduction sale with exceptional values for customers.

H&M opened its previously announced new location at Town Center at Cobb in Kennesaw this past Thursday, August 23.  The nearly 27,000 square foot store joined the 16 existing H&M destinations in the state.  The new store features collections for ladies and men, with a separate “shop in shop” section with accessories. This location also carries the H&M Kids collection for newborns to 14 year olds.

The TOUR Championship (September 19-23) at East Lake will this year introduce a new, exclusive amenity for guests looking for a premium experience.  The historic East Lake clubhouse will be transformed into "The 1904 Club" for the tournament to take place September 19-23.  The private club, named for the year the club was established, will provide members with deluxe offerings like an onsite concierge and valet parking, but the best part may be the food.  The club has partnered with a number of popular Atlanta area chefs to up the ante on the food offerings.  Kevin Gillespie of Gunshow, Revival and Gamechanger, DeeDee Niyonkul of Tuk Tuk Thai Food Loft and Chai Yo, Kevin Rathbun of Kevin Rathbun Steak, Rathbun's and KR Steak Bar, Chris Hall of Local Three Kitchen & Bar, and Nan Niyonkul of Nan Thai Fine Dining, will all be cooking at the club over the course of the tournament. Club membership is limited to 500.

Kroger is adding a "Kro-Bar" to its existing large format "Marketplace" store in Bonaire in the greater Warner Robins area.  The Bonaire store is the 12th Kroger in Georgia to have the bar offerings.  Kroger stores in metro Atlanta that feature the "Kro-Bar" include those in North Decatur, Lindbergh, Glenwood and Brookhaven, among others.  The Bonaire "Kro-Bar" is slated to open in mid-November.

After hearing rumors shortly after popular Virginia-Highland bar Hand in Hand closed that neighboring bar Neighbor's Pub would take their place, the rumors were confirmed earlier this week.  The owners of Neighbor's have in fact taken over the space and while only the patio is being utilized now, plans call for the interior space to be renovated and used in the months to come.  It's unclear if there will be access between the two, or if the plan is to introduce a completely new concept.

A new fitness studio called Hotworx, with one facility already open in Suwanee, has at least one more location in the immediate pipeline.  The new Hotworx will be opening in the old The Camera Doctor space in North Decatur Center on Clairmont Road near North Decatur Road.  The 2,100 square foot studio will feature 24 hour access to virtually instructed, infrared sauna workouts, according to its website.  The studio will not be staffed 24 hours a day.

Boston based Tough Mudder Bootcamp is looking at opening as many as 30 studios in metro Atlanta with Roswell, Alpharetta, Tucker and Decatur among their early targets.

Atlanta-based Serta Simmons Bedding announced earlier this week that they were "merging" with direct-to-consumer mattress company Tuft & Needle.  The deal will be one of the first to combine a legacy mattress company with one of the upstart online brands that has infiltrated the industry over the past few years. Phoenix-based Tuft & Needle launched in 2012, and like peers Casper and Leesa, sells foam mattresses direct to consumers, that arrive to buyers in a box, and then expand upon removal from the box.

Chick-fil-A will launch their highly anticipated meal kits Monday, August 27 at many, but not all, metro Atlanta area restaurants.  The first two options are Chicken Parmesan or Chicken Enchiladas.  Each kit is portioned to feed two people. Among the Chick-fil-A restaurants where customers will be able to find the kits are the locations on South Cobb Drive at I-285 in Smyrna, LaVista Road in Tucker, Barrett Parkway in Kennesaw and Piedmont Road in Buckhead.

Corner Tavern closed in Newnan on Saturday after ten years in business.  The restaurant is not related to the restaurants with the same name with locations in Edgewood, Little 5 Points and Hapeville.
