[EXCLUSIVE] Celebrity Chef Shutters Second Atlanta Eatery

Baffi, the upscale Italian restaurant that Celebrity Chef Jonathan Waxman opened in West Midtown in early 2021, has closed.  The restaurant, which took over the space previously occupied by Indigo Road's Donetto, was meant to serve as the replacement for Waxman's other Atlanta area restaurant, Brezza Cucina, which closed in Ponce City Market (PCM) in June 2020 after nearly five years in business. (Atrium from locally owned Oliva Restaurant Group now occupies the PCM space.)

Ferrari made its debut Friday August 12 at Lenox Square in Buckhead.  The new boutique, which replaced the Tesla store, is located just outside Neiman Marcus on the first floor of the Buckhead mall.

[EXCLUSIVE] New Wing Joint Bringing Chicken Back to Colonel's Old Crib

A growing wings franchise is hoping to take flight in Piedmont Heights.  Urban Wings, which launched in 2021 on Atlanta's "Upper Westside," has inked its first franchise agreement that will bring it to 1825 Piedmont Avenue.  The new Urban Wings will occupy a roughly 1,500 square foot building that dates to 1964 when it was a KFC franchise.  In recent years, the building played host to a Subway franchise while the parking lot seemed to function as a showcase for a vehicle promoting "Fitness with Jeff."

[CLOSURE ALERT] "Cheers of the South" Shutters After More Than Four Decades in Business

The Rusty Nail, a Sandy Springs mainstay for more than four decades, has closed.  The pub, located at 8549 Roswell Road, celebrated a "Last Call" Saturday, August 20, before closing for the final time.  Occupying a onetime KFC, The Rusty Nail Sandy Springs opened in 1978, four years after the original The Rusty Nail made its debut on Buford Highway, near its intersection with North Druid Hills Road, in Brookhaven.

[CLOSURE ALERT] SoulCycle To Shutter Single Atlanta Studio

Indoor cycling studio SoulCycle has announced plans to close nearly 25 percent of its studios.  The plan, revealed in an email to customers over the weekend, includes closing one of only two studios in Atlanta.  The SoulCycle in Buckhead at The Shops Around Lenox will remain open, but the relatively new studio at Ponce City Market will close.

[CLOSURE ALERT] Plant Based Pizzeria Out Cold in Sandy Springs

Plant Based Pizzeria, which in early 2021 opened what was then its second overall location in Sandy Springs, has closed.  The restaurant, located at 8540 Roswell Road [Huntridge Center] opened January 10, 2021, and closed "temporarily" sometime in July, a move we have now confirmed is permanent. (The last submission on Yelp.com was a four star review on July 18.)  The restaurant, which also served plant-based burgers, claimed to be Atlanta's first "all-vegan pizzeria."

[CLOSURE ALERT] Scalini's Suddenly Shutters in Smyrna

Scalini's Italian Restaurant announced Monday that it has closed for business.  The restaurant, located at 2390 Cobb Parkway, a Smyrna area mainstay for more than forty years, closed as of dinner service on Sunday August 8.  The post announcing the closure went live Monday, at which point it spread like wildfire as longtime patrons learned the devastating news.

Copper Coin in Woodstock is closing.  The locally owned coffee shop announced its planned closure Tuesday in message posted to its Facebook page.  "It’s with a heavy heart that Copper Coin announces it will be permanently closing on Saturday, September 3, 2022.  Rising food costs combined with new discretionary spending trends prohibit us from renewing our upcoming five-year lease.  To our many customers, fans, remote-work guests, and fellow coffee addicts—THANK YOU."  Copper Coin started as Old Woodstock Coffee House in 2010 before moving from Uptown to Downtown Woodstock in 2011.  Copper Coin founder Mike Gullicksen went through ill-advised expansions to Brookhaven and Cumming, both of which subsequently closed.  Gullicksen sold the Woodstock business in 2017 to Randy Altmann, who in turn sold the business to Chantel Adams and her husband this past October.  

[EXCLUSIVE] Atlanta Ice Cream Producer to Shutter After Seven Decades in Business

Atlanta will soon lose its longest running, continuously operating ice cream maker.  Greenwood Ice Cream, located at 4829 Peachtree Road in Chamblee, is due to close as soon as next week after seven decades in business.  George Greenwood, Sr. started the business in 1952 with current owner Mitchell Williams having purchased it in 1990. 

[EXCLUSIVE] Growing Healthy Eatery Secures Space in Suburban Shopping Center

A new restaurant offering healthy bowls, sandwiches, wraps, juices and shakes, among other items, will next year open what will likely be its third Atlanta area location.  ToNeTo Atlanta exclusively reported this past October that Original ChopShop would make their Atlanta debut on Peachtree Road in south Buckhead.  We later reported that the Arizona-based chain was opening a second location in Alpharetta near North Point Mall.

[EXCLUSIVE] Snooze Opening New Locations in Akers Mill and Alpharetta

Snooze, an A.M. Eatery, a growing breakfast concept, has leased space for its latest locations in metro Atlanta.  The Denver-based chain made its Atlanta area debut last January in Sandy Springs and added a second location on the Westside this past September.  ToNeTo Atlanta reported this past December that the company was planning additional locations in Midtown and Buford.  Now, we have confirmed two more new Atlanta area outposts.

[CLOSURE ALERT] Newk's Eatery Closes Two Atlanta Locations, Hopes to Reopen at Least One

Newk's Eatery has closed two more Atlanta area locations, but real estate sources tell ToNeTo Atlanta that the Jackson, Mississippi-based chain is in talks to re-open at least one of them.  The restaurants, located in The Village at Druid Hills near the intersection of North Druid Hills and Briarcliff Roads and at Tucker Meridian near the intersection of Northlake Parkway and LaVista Road, closed in recent days and have both been removed from the Newk's Eatery corporate website.
